I'm going fishing shortly and my quad will only fit with the tailgate down. I'll be pulling a small boat at the same time. It's about 50km is the highway on a gravel road, so 100km once I'm out. I was thinking I'd remove the tailgate to eliminate the chances of it getting sand blasted. I drive a 2017 pro4x with the camera and electronic locking tailgate.
So I have two questions.
Has anyone removed the tailgate on a titan?
Do you think I should remove it or just drive with it down?

does the quad sit on the tailgate at all? if it does then you gotta leave it on.

remove cables, easily done, unplug any wires from under the truck that go to tailgate, pull those out of the way, if possible, then at about 45 degree angle the one side will pop out away from the truck, then slide the tailgate laterally and it'll come off the other side. I think the driver side pops off at the angle and the passenger side is the side where it slides towards driver side as that mount is a oval shape.

don't drop it. it's a bit bulky and kinda heavy. it's easier to do on your own until its off the truck then have someone help you carry it. two people pushing and pulling it while removing from the truck is annoying.

It kinda sits on the edge of the box/tail gate. I was able to get leftover vinyl from a sign shop. I'll just stick some over the tailgate for the trip. It's not the super sticky stuff so it will come off easily I was told.
