The rear speakers can be muted from the rear controls somehow. Went on a road trip with wife and friends in the back, and they muted my rear speakers and sub. If you have the RF system you can turn your rear control off. After about a month of my stereo sounding like crap I turned off the rear control and everything returned to normal.
