Afternoon Titans. 04 LE 4x4 original owner.210k
Nav,dvd.everything else
Been through it all.
Now my stereo/nav would work then stop working then the nav screen would go dark grey but still be on while the key was out.
I have been searching for an answer besides ripping everything out. Has anyone been able to pinpoint the reason for this. Yes I know the RF unit is low quality but thats all I need. I like to listen to my engine with my cherry bombs mostly.Wife would like music. Some said amp but does that affect my whole nav screen along with the head unit.
I can no longer use the info screen for anything or the cd player. I had to pull the fuse to the system to keep it from draining my battery.
I havent read a definitive answer for this issue and the stealership is in no way an option.
Thanks for you help Titans.

Obviously the audio/nav system is broken. Given its age and the fact that it was not leading edge technology when new, just replace the system. If you have a new cellphone it will have better navagation apps available than that of your present system. For about $250 you can obtain an aftermarket unit that will sound better than original. (I had an '04 Titan and scrapped the RF system within two months of purchase).

There is a wealth of info on this site on how to do the change.

Enjoy your new system!

First thing I'd try is to disconnect the battery for 12hrs or so (overnight) and see if the radio resets. If that doesn't work, you're looking at swapping to a new system. Sounds like the primary concern of losing all your data on the Nav screen is no longer an issue because it's already gone, so just swapping to a standard double-din unit with Android integration is the best option, as that gives you nav options, along with every other aspect of music listening.

Thank you for the information. I have read alot on this site but never understood where the amp is. I know where the head unit is. I am guessing it is all one unit in the dash. The other question was if I could get the nav info screen to work with a new HU or is it now an empty picture frame. Thanks for your help

The amp is located on the firewall just behind and above the brake pedal. It has two connectors a large blue one (contains all speaker outputs as well as audio in from the HU) and a smaller white one (provides power).

There are some adapters out there that will interface the data line to the new HUs (so I have read - no personal knowledge). a Web search may yield more reliable info.

I've only seen one instance where someone was able to save the Nav screen and various information functions on it, while swapping out to an aftermarket head unit. Never did fully track down whether this is something that is easily workable or if this was a one-off. Here's the link:

Beyond that, if you swap to an aftermarket head unit, you'll likely lose the Nav and info screen function.

Thank you very much for the information. I have more of a clue now and that is what I was looking for. I read the link to have the nav controls moved into the glove box. It at least gives me an option now.
