RF sub question

627 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Buildwonder
I recently had an Armada rental without the RF system. I liked the way it sounded better than all of the heavy muffled bass that is in the RF system on my Titan. I like bass, just not so muffled as in the Titan. Is it possible for me to disconnect only the sub and see how that sounds? I always keep my bass at -3 or under and if I turn it up very loud, it sounds worse than a $35 bookshelf system.

You sure can. Just look under the drivers seat. You can unplug it, I'm not sure if you will need to take the seat out or not though. I know you will need to take it out if you want to remove the box.

Yes you do have to pull the seat to unplug it. its under the bottom
I think you might be able to just remove the 4 bolts and just lean the seat back though.... Just go easy because there are some wires under there.....
Is there any aftermarket sub that I can put in place of the RF sub? If so will it make it sound better? Not as muffled?

James (tech12volt) is working on something but its not an easy task. The problem is that the seat above it vibrates and muffles the sound thats one of the reasons the RF sub sounds bad, not to mention its a cheap driver.

I know he has been working on an direct replacement however he wont release anything unless he is sure it will sound great and not cost a fortune.

Your best bet for now is to go with a single driver under 1/2 of the rear seat.
This wont be as good as 12volt's but it's out now. Here's the link

I just got my Titan with the RF and I couldn't be more disappointed. It's garbage in my opinion. CD's sound ok but FM and Sirius sound like sh*t! Granted, it's better than the standard but it's not worthy of RF's name. The sub is certainly the weakest link. It's very "loose" and inaccurate. I bought my Titan used. Had I purchased mine new and paid $1300 for the upgrade, I would have come unglued the first time I listened to it. Good luck on the replacement, James. Sign me up when you're done. :computern
