Hello guys, first post here and ready to start working on my 04 Titan. She’s got 31k miles.

Went to remove the cabin air filter and as expected a load of debris comes out, basically the entire intake side of the box was filled with nesting material, I assume mice. My question is, how did they get in here? Are the only intake holes for the hvac on the top by the wipers or is there another entrance? Would they come in from the inside and push past the air recirculate foam pad?

Any help is appreciated, as I’m still learning how the hvac system works and remove the smell that the nest created.

Thank you all!

Mice can get into places through a crack less than a centimeter wide. Much less, sometimes. My guess is they got in the truck, then got into the upper plenum area because the recirc door was open or something like that. Get some good antibacterial liquid and wipe down all you can, spray your new filters with it, and run the system a lot, out in the sunshine. That's about all you can do.
