I know its been talked about alot, but i finally decided to install a roof rack on my Titan. I was thinking of doing an oem style by using the luggage rack of an armada but i went with a tahoe one instead. I think it will look alot cleaner, better lines. So im thinking of drilling into the roof to bolt it on, what would be the best nutsert/plus nut or how ever you call them for the job?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Thanks carlo_natit for the help. I have been doing some research and most people add silicone to make it more water proof. I'll keep this thread posted i might get it done next week. Once again thank you

Ok i took on the task of making my own roof rack. I purchased a roof rack off a tahoe, up until this week i started messing with it and tacking measurements. The side rails i decided to go with 40-1/2 inches long. With the end caps it's going to be a little longer. I haven't finished but this is what i have so far. I cut the side rails to size I still need to drill hole for the end caps to fit like stock, i was gonna do that today but the weather didn't allow. I didnt take pictures of the rails cut it got dark on me yesterday. But ill put pictures up as im going.

Ok I finished the rack today. I just have to drill the roof and bolt it down, but the hardware store didnt have all the things i needed, i have to wait till Wednesday. But i drilled the holes for the end caps to fit and re-painted so they look newer. I was thinking of painting the plastic but im just gonna armor it or use that wipe new thing to restore the plastic. That way it matches the mirros/door handles/fenders and all that good stuff. Any way i dry tested it on the roof. What do you guys think?! I HONESTLY LOVE IT!!!!

I cant wait to have it permanently on my roof.
I don't know if you guys can tell the difference, but in the first pics i placed the rack the way it goes on the tahoes with the longer end cap to the front. I also place it the other way in these photos to see what side looked better.
I like it the original way, what do you think?!

Coming along nicely man.

What's the total length of the rack? I'm still trying to figure out what length I should go with. I don't have access to my rig, so I'm not sure just how much flat roof length I have to work with for mounting some tracks.

I went with 40-1/2 inches just on the metal side piece, the end caps added some length to it but i haven't measured it all together

After exhausting time going to the hardware store to see if they had re-stocked there inventory and nothing, I decided to buy a metric nutsert. I only needed one to start drilling. After that i got to it, its finally on my roof. I didnt take many pictures kinda got late on me. I started of with a small drill and increased from there just enought to fit the nutsert a little tight.

I noticed the YouTube video the guy doesn't use any sealant after the crush nut install? Isn't there worry of the roof leaking or is this method pretty my leak resistant?
