Considering a 2010-2014 Crew Cab Titan, long bed, with a pop-up camper (probably from Hallmark or FWC) to travel South America, Africa etc for a few years, starting 2020. Family of 4. Have lots of travel experience, but not in a Nissan Titan. What do folks think? Is this a solid reliable vehicle that can take on what these continents can dish out in terms of rough roads, limited service options, etc? Or am I better off in a Tundra or Ford? We do not want to do the roof tent thing or Sprinter van (too tall; diesel compatibility issues), so a pick up is essential. Thanks!

This is posted in the second generation area, but I'm on my second titan and neither has ever let me sit. The only issue I can see you having is its only made for the US. Outside the states should you need a part, it would most likely have to be outsourced. If you load up on air filters and oil filters, so you can do regular maintenance should keep you running strong. I think if you doing a lot of off road, I would consider some suspension upgrades (stock shocks and struts are crap) and axel vent mod to avoid water contamination. Maybe a radiator upgrade with separate transmission cooler, but the truck can and will take some abuse.

I believe there was a husband/wife that did top of North America to bottom of South America in a 1st gen Titan, not sure there is enough background/life experience on the 2nd Gen to make a call on reliability adn durability yet.

Says he's looking for a 2010-2014 so first gen. You're asking if a Titan's better on a Titan forum, what answers do you expect?

Other than certain things that have been beaten to death, brought back, and beaten again on these forums the trucks are pretty bullet proof. Engine and transmission are solid.

Another issue is there isn't the variety of aftermarket parts that there are with Toyota and Ford so you're limited to few options in some cases.

As a family saftey standpoint I wouldn't do it, regardless of the chosen vehicle. That's like visiting the West side of Chicago on a Friday night.

Not sure how much driving you're going to do, but MPG might be a consideration as well. Ain't the best in the Titan....

you also might want to consider if the locals are going to be familiar with the truck if you need repair or parts.
I believe Nissan has good market share in Mexico and Brazil, at least when compared to toyota and ford.
but i havent heard that the Titan goes to South America.Mexico I think yes, but idk about elsewhere in central and S A. F150 is a massive seller in terms of sheer volume worldwide.
