The truck was manufactured 10/07 and I purchased it 11/07. Since then I've put 1000 miles on it and I haven't towed or been off road.

Anyway, I've been watching this spot on the rear umper. When I first saw it it wiped off like brownish mud. Today, I saw the mudish color at the same locatation and after I wiped it off, this is what I found. (picture 1).

The second picture shows more rust colored runoff starting near the license plate light. It's easier to see up close and in person but the bright shiny areas are really tinted rust.

The chrome areas on the bumper are the only places I was worried about forming some rust (although not this soon). The stealershop had Ziebarted the bottom of the truck so it's pretty rust proof.

Anyway, I am within any resonable definition of a warranty so other than the pain of having to have the dealer replace the bumper I'm not too pissed. Just severly annoyed!!!!!

Yeah that is very annoying! Get it replaced and keep an eye out for anymore spots.

Well it should not look like that after only 14 months. I would expect something like that after 6-7 years. Send that pic to a Nissan dealer and see what they say. We have a rust through warranty that has to be a hole, not just on the surface. If mine looked like that, I would be pizzed.

Looks like bad chrome or chrome preparation in the area. It could also be that the metal is very porous in this area. I did have the inside of my bumpers rust proofed because of the amount of salty slush that collects on the inside of the bumpers, especially on the front bumper. On my last truck, the inside of the front bumper was so rusted after one winter that all the edges were starting to bleed the rust on the front side.

I agree, not 14 months. However, by my math, my truck is a little over 4 months old - and rust definitely should not be present. That's probably why I'm not very happy.

The bumpers were made in Mexico if I remember correctly. This is when outsourcing costs more, because it has to be done twice.

I believe the issue should be covered under warranty.

Go to your dealer, and see what they will do for you.

Hoselton Auto Mall in NY is swapping out the bumper on Wed. Luckily I already had a service appointment scheduled and they just happen to have an extra bumper in stock (they got some extra body parts in anticipation of winter accidents).

I did sent a note to Nissan USA expressing my displeasure. I hope to hear back from them if just to hear them say "sorry, our bad".

My 08 has a couple of rust spots in the same place on the bumper. I just noticed them yesterday.
