Spacers

Hey Don,

Interesting "mod" with the spacers!

I really like the Titan but was a little turned off by the lack of power seats in the bench, as well as their general "mushy" feel. Enough so that it may be a "deal breaker". But the height in the front could sway me!

I really want a bench seat so that I can sit 6, but even more so because I like the giant arm rest. Our SUV has the captains chairs now and I hate the small armrests and the fact that they sit so close to your body. I'm 6'1" and 240lbs...like my space. I've also found those center consoles to be less functional than the large bench storage.

Sooo...any particular spacers you used? and how difficult is this?

I'm primarily worried about that thigh support in the front of the seat. I drive an Acura Legend now and all other seats in any vehicle are a major letdown!

Hey amati5 I don't have the power seats neither, so what I did was put some spacers in the front and back of the seats where they mount to the floor, more in the front where it does have a slight lean, and overall about 4" higher. The view is much better when you sit a little higher. I have the se package with the 60/40 bench seat with the transmission shifter on the column, I test drove one with the transmission with the shifter on the floor and thought that is what I wanted, but after one day driving it I found it was more of a inconvenience going through the entire shift pattern from drive to park, just my opinion, as far as leather I would rather the cloth. freeze your *** in the winter and burn it in the summer !!!!!!!

Don:

how is this done "put some spacers in the front and back of the seats" ? is this an "easy" process?

Ok, I tried it on the weekend. I did some test and figureed even if I raised 2", it still wouldn't help me to see the front of my truck. I am only 5'7. But I had wanted to tilt the whole seat a litte up from the front for my legs. I tried to put 2 washers in the front only but the right hole now not lined up straight and I couldn't push the (new, longer) bolt through, even with one washer. Then I realized the washers were too big (in outer diameter). I found one smaller in may garage (in outer diameter) and it worked. May be I'll get another one from Home Depot and add later to be consistent with the left side.

Bad mo, it was a very easy process, had to get longer bolts, and some spacer washers, 4 bolts, some spacer washers on, bam was done took me about 25 minutes, hope it works for ya, and yes I agree with you on the thin arm rests, I much prefer the large center console for a arm rest, and it is the right height, the bucket seat arm rests are too low, and too thin, well good luck

I really like leather but only need the SE. The dealer told me he would put leather in it for 700 bucks and it would be covered by warranty since they did it. They have the stock leather to give to the leather guy so it can look the same. The leather guy actually called me before they did it and said he thought it would look better with the 2 tone just like cloth seats(The stock leather is more of a solid color scheme) and he had the correct color. No extra charge because he wanted to see how it looked. I went for it and it looks great.

Every dealer i've been to has said you can't get aftermarket leather seating because of the sensors in the passenger seat for the airbag cutoff. Did they say anything to you about that?

Does your airbag light still work properly?

My dealer told me he could cover my seats in leather for $1,000.00. He said that it would be just as good if not better than factory leather. He suggested that I get leather in a few years when my cloth seats start to show their age. He has put leather in trucks before and didn't mention anything about sensors.

The only reason i asked was due the dealers mentioning the sensors in the seat cushions and how adding aftermarket leather would screw them up and affect the operation of the airbag.

I would just verify with the Nissan HQ whether this would have an affect on airbag effectiveness. I'd hate to see someone (God forbid) have a collision and have a malfunction in the airbags because of an aftermarket add-on, then have Nissan say sorry we aren't paying for damages because you added leather after the fact

Just food for thought.

Exodike, I am also in So Cal. Which dealer did yours? For $700 I may consider. My dealer said there was no problem doing leather after but they wanted $1200. If you refer, please email at [email protected] . Also, if you have pics of the leather, please post/send.

p.s. I thought the stock leather also comes with 2 tone

Thx

Aftermarket Leather

My guess would be that aftermarket leather isn't a problem with the standard airbags, since you're just dealing with "sensors" that calculate the weight of a passenger or presence of a passenger.

If you get the Airbag Pkg it could get a little tricky, considering the side airbags inflate from within the seat.

I've been contemplating all of these scenarios too considering the mushy seats and lack of power in the bench config. When they add leather they might also be able to bolster the seat somewhat?

After dealing with any Gremlins in this first year, I think performance seats would be pretty high on my "wish list" for this PU...all that power and you're sitting on a pretty flimsy piece of foam. :futwice:

The side air bags are located along the top of the roof rail at the edge of the headliner.

I belive that the front side air bags are in front the seats. The roof air bags are where you described... I could be wrong though, anyone know for sure?

Yes I know this for sure. I guess I had better explain how so all will believe. When I had the sunroof drain leaking they had the A-pillar trim removed. Under that is where the inflation can is and the tubes running up to the airbag in the head liner.

The only confusion here is what I just caused because militia_man is absolutely correct. Sorry but I stand corrected and have learned something in the process. With the side air bag option there are 2 sets. One that comes out from the head liner like I explained earlier and ones that come from the seats like militia_man was talking about, so there are 2 sets. I apologize militia man, I should have done more research on the topic.

I work for the company that makes the airbags for the Titan. The sidebags come out of the seat sides to protect your torso from a side impact. The curtain airbags comes out of the headliner to protect your head from a side impact or rollover accident.

It is funny you mention the airbag. Yes, after having the seats done, the airbag light is now on and blinking. I am taking it back in a couple of days when I pick up my bed extender. They said no problem to fix. Hope that is the case.

Hmmmm, I don't like leather seats, sofa or otherwise, so it wasn't a consideration for me. The seats in the SE are great (captains) - I'm quite used to the fabric as its basically whats in the wife's 02 xterra.

Can anyone confirm if the Titan has supplemental side airbags standard, even without the Airbag Pkg?

One my driverside A-pillar there's a stamp that says SRS Supplemental Airbag and there's also one on the steering wheel cover. We didn't get the Airbag Pkg as an option, so i didn't think we had side airbags.

I'm confused. Maybe they just used the wrong A-pillar piece????

According to Edmunds the side air bag package (code S01) comes with front side air bags (in seats) and front and rear curtain airbags (in head liner) with a rollover sensor. This package requires the Big Tow Package (T01). Having said that it wouldn't surprise me if they just used the same A-Pillar trim pieces in all of them. For example, my truck is a 2wd, but when I looked under it the front hubs have splines in them for 4wd use. Weird but perhaps a cost saver when it comes to assembly.
