I was wondering if there are any negative effects to removing the secondary cats and gutting the other set? Any help is appreciated.

I know when I had my 350z a lot of guys were removing the secondary cats with no ill effects. They would still pass smog tests and no problems with the engine. The main benefit is a deeper sound if that's what you are going for.
No harm in removing the secondary cats but there's little (if any) benefit to gutting the primary cats and it really increases your exhaust emissions. Why did you want to gut the primary cats?
Well we don't have emissions tests here in Fl so I should be good as long as nobody here works for DOT. lol. And I want to gut the other cats so it'll be louder. I've done it on most of my other trucks and it does sound alot better.
Oh, OK -- I remember those days (I grew up near Dothan, AL) if you want sound, just go with a cool muffler - if you want loud, just unbolt the exhaust right after the cats LOL j/k(I did this, much to my neighbors' dismay, it doesn't sound good) if you want a louder exhaust check on the single chamber mufflers from flowmaster and cherry bomb, but I wouldn't remove or gut the primary cats just for sound, I'm sure theres the potential of having trouble codes (check engine light) due to the increase in exhaust emissions and flow.
On second thought, get headers then you can increase performance and sound plus toss the cats. LOL
Yeah I wasn't sure about the primary's, figured there'd be trouble. I can't really afford headers right now, I'm just a poor college student. lol. Well actually I could afford em, I just don't take any money outta the Savings account unless it's an emergency. Thanks for the info Fox! Haha yeah I cut my exhaust off right before the muffler, then ran like a 3ft straight pipe until it was past the cab and welded on a turndown. It sounded sweet until like 2800 RPMs then it sounded horrible.
dont know if your under factory warranty but my buddy from nissan said if the cats are modified they can deny your warranty work.
Sad to say my year and a half old Titan already has just over 40k miles.:upsidedow
