Hello all. I'm currently shopping for a used Titan.

Outside of the normal things to look for when shopping for a used car, I'm wondering what Titan-specific issues I might want to look out for?

I've read up on the brake recall, and there seems to be some issues with the rear diff. Although, on that last issue, I can't seem to find a pattern.

I'm looking at the 04-06 model years, since those seem to fit into my budget (> $13k).

I apologize if this has been covered before in a single thread. I spent some time searching but wasn't able to find a comprehensive guide. TIA.

find one you like, thats the most important thing. check the shackles to see if they are still in one piece or if they look damaged, the pre 08s have an issue with breaking and putting the leaf springs through the bed of the truck

ok let me see if i can get this off the top of my head,
1)brake judder 04'-thru 05' check to see if it has been done
2)rear diff> check for aluminum finned cover
3)absolutely drive it like you stole it and check how the transmission shifts, sounds etc....
4)other issues are minor and can be fixed relatively easy

i know i missed a few but like i said nothing to worry about

As said above.. checking the tranny it should shift very very smooth. I was VERY hard on my truck. I would slip the gears all the time, floor it, redline it in 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd a lot! (getting on freeway).

Rear diff should be finned..not solid.

look under the truck to see if skid plates are in place..if they are, check to see if major dents and scratches..this will tell you what kinda abues it recived (offroad vs onroad)

Welcome to TT.

You didn't specify if you wanted 2 or 4WD. But at 13K, you can get a 2007 2WD KC (granted, XE) for that kinda money, and I've even seen 2008's for under 15K.
Be sure to shop around b/c I'm seeing them for 14K and less all the time.

IMO, I would not get a 2004. Just not worth it at this point. Lots of people have had good luck with them, but many haven't.

I'd say get at least an 06. I drive an 06 and the truck has been very reliable. If you plan on adding your own personal touches and don't like the chrome front, then an XE is the way to go. Otherwise, compare models.

Thanks for the input everyone. You folks have a nice forum here.

I'm now focusing my efforts on finding an '06 or newer. I only need a 2WD. I want power goodies inside and cruise control. I don't plan on doing many modifications to it. It will primarily be used for weekend chores, boat towing, and (maybe someday) towing a trailer and racecar.

I'll add my two cents.

I have an '04 and had upgraded the parts I wanted to avoid any possible future issues. It's trouble free.

ANY vehicle you buy used should be taken to an independent mechanic and reviewed.

I would take a loaded '04 over a base XE...

I believe power windows, door locks, and cruise are standard on even the XE. You should check into a new one b/c they have $5K in rebates!
