Does anybody run this in their engine?

I'm still running 5-30 in mine but I only have 44,000 miles on mine.

I just don't know if the 40 weight is too thick to lubricate the pistons right without scouring something.

I personally wouldn't run 5-40, is there a reason why you think you need to change viscosity?

I do know people that run it in some older pickups, I was wondering if anybody uses it in their Titan?

My father in law is running it in his Harley electra glide. Suppose to keep it cooler he claims.

160k with 5w 30 Mobil 1 full synthetic every 8k is what I run in my 06. I would not use it.

I think you'll see lower MPG with that higher viscosity. I run 0w-30 synthetic year round without any problems. Lab tests of my oil show that even at a 10K oil change interval it still has life left in it. I've run my Titan at -20° F to 112° F on that same weight of oil. I see no reason to use a 40 weight oil unless you're running it at high RPMs all that time, like racing.

Rotella T is fine in motorcycles because of the wet clutch. However, I've been told not to otherwise use diesel oil in a gas powered vehicle because it can damage the cats. I don't know if that's true. I ran Delvac-1 in my Nissan Frontier once and it seemed to do okay. The VQ engines seem to like Castrol Edge for some reason. I'm trying it now in my Titan and it seems to be doing well.

Could you please expand on that a bit? What do you mean with regard to "liking it"? I am looking for my next oil, and would like to know more.......

Yeah i wouldn't run Diesel oil in a gas engine either, im no expert on oil, but i would think diesel oil has different additives/properties than gas oil, thus might be lacking of something that a gas engine needs.

I would run a lighter weight like the guys above say, it wouldn't damage anything unless there is already damage to the engine. (ie a worn out motor with more tolerance is more likely to burn thinner oil, etc).

If you want to play it safe, put what you know works in it, what is written on the cap. 5w30.

They like what ever you want to use. Different preferences for every one. I like Mobil 1 full synthetic, some like Royal purple products, and the list goes on and on. I do suggest sticking with one. Don't change brands like my wife changes clothes. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I run it in all of my supercharged watercraft. It's a very good oil, but I found that the MAG1 brand:

is an awesome, inexpensive oil that I use in my Titan, my 03 Tacoma (10w30) and my '15 Acura MDX (0w20). No reason to up the viscosity in your Titan if you don't need to.

I tried several different oils back when I had a Frontier. I tried Mobil 1, Delvac 1, Super Tech, and Castrol Edge. For some reason, the engine felt smoother and was quieter using Castrol.

For my first oil change in the Titan, I tried Pennzoil. It was okay, but the engine didn't feel as smooth as it did with the factory fill. I changed the oil over the weekend to Castrol and it feels like the smoothness has returned. I'll probably stick with it from now on.

Once upon a time this oil was known to kill cat converters due to the diesel specific formulation. I understand that is not longer the case, it's certified for gasoline and diesel engines...and is probably the best bang for you buck you will find.

If you want the best performing oil for our trucks...I remember there was a guy super into this who did a bunch of tests and came back with M1 0W40 as his preferred oil.

I use M1 0w40 in my Z, it says it's for the GTR, so I assume it's safe for my lil old Z car. Funny thing is it says "European car formula" on the bottle......Oh well.

My truck gets Napa 5w30 synthetic.....until those 2 free cases of it are gone.:)

I use Rotella T6 5w40 in my titan, no issues. I even have a black stone labs UOA showing 3800 miles on it. Plus I just sent off another lab test of Rotella T6 5w40 with around 4200 miles on it.

This last go around I went through 4200 miles, and that included numerous WOT runs/pulls as well as 14 Dyno pulls. This was made within the last 200 miles of the 4200.

I opted for the TBN this time around as well. It sheared down to a thick 30wt oil from the first UOA I did. The engine ran quieter than it ever has with previous fill of Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge 5w30.

Manyyyy NIssan 350z, GTR, 300zx, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Porsche and even Jeep gasoline engine guys run it with good reports from UOA.

Nissan states not to use anything thinner than a 30wt or thicker than a 40wt. If using a 40wt, let some heat get into the oil before beating on it.

Even VK45 (M45, FX45) owners have stated that using the Rotella T6 5w40 has reduced if not eliminated their oil consumption issues.

If worried about the phosphorus content in Rotella T6 and its effect on the catalytic converters, then don't use it I presume. If you have a non tuned truck with modifications and run rich AFR, that would be more problematic to your catalyst over time.

If all else fails, just use another tried and true oil for NIssan VK engines, Mobil 1 0w40.

If you don't want to believe the internet (which I don't blame you), then pick an oil you want to use, fill the truck up with it and then drive it for say 5k miles in the conditions your normally drive and get a Oil Analysis test done by either BlackStone Labs or Polaris.

Read this thread on 350Z forums, it has an excellent break down/writeup on what to look for as well as understand with petroleum/oil analysis testing data.

I`ve got a few good reports on both the Amsoil, and the Valv synpower. I have Penn Plat on the shelf to try, and also curious about the T6.
Fram has a redesigned racing filter for street beasts and track cars that looks impressive as well. I`ll be trying those out in the future...

Cory, check those out... god for 6k OCI, but ok to drain at 3k...

I didn't have any issues when I ran Delvac-1 in my Frontier, although that was just one fill. Rotella T6 works well in my bikes. The engines are smooth as butter. Of course, I don't have cats on either of the bikes.

I wonder, is it advisable to cut T6 with another oil? Maybe half T6 and half M1?
