I have had to remove the small plug cover on the console in order to push the locking mechanism down at times. is it electrically controlled or vacuum ? Have had to do that 3 times in 2 yrs.........Thanks in advance for any info

It's electronically driven, a signal from you pressing and releasing the brake pedal drives a signal to the solenoid in your shifting mechanism.

So, the same switch that allows cruise to work also works the shifter lock? thanks for info

My wife's friend had a Rogue that had the same problem, but hers did it all the time. Dealer wanted $300 to replace the solenoid thingy, I just told her to keep the little cover removed and leave a paper clip in the console.
