If you have a plug and play, there is a volume control in the head unit itself. Check your owners manual or scroll through the menu options. I have my Starmate 4 connected the same way you mention, the sound quality and volume are excellent. I have the volume on the startmate set to about 3/4. Good luck and enjoy.
starmate 4 is the radio i have as well. my volume is up full on radio and unit itself too.
What difference do you notice between the sirius player and the head unit itself (when your playing FM or a disc). On mine they are about the same. If they are much different you would have to try another source into the aux input. If that test source is low volume also you know the problem is with the connection or the head unit. If it improves you have a problem with your starmate. If you are dissatisfied with the output of the factory head unit all the time, contact tech12volt. He does some amazing work with sub boxes and usually has some good deals on amps and speaker upgrades. Good luck and all the best.
Anything plugged in to the AUX input has lower volume than normal. Our iPod does the same thing.
I notice very little change between internal sources (FM, CD) and external sources played through the aux input. Most of the things I use do have an internal volume control though. Perhaps it's just that I have them dialed in to match up. My starmate on 3/4 volume matches well. If he has his volume maxed and is dissatisfied, they may be other issues as well. Have you tried adjusting the volume control on your ipod?
Mine is also very quiet through the aux. input. If I listen to the sat radio through the fm it a little louder but no where near the volume of a CD.
my zune is quieter throught AUX as well
Yeah - the aux input pretty much sucks. You need what they are talking about 4 threads below (now this will surely change):

man all this is no fare lol, I must need to check my connections or something or maby the way I have my sirius plugged in? the quality to me for sirius stinks,
I have different door speakers, put an amp and also have a rockford 3sixty.1 processor which is only half of what I have to my system but my sirius still doesnt sound good? I have the Pioneer Avic D3. must be the way I have it connected maby?
I had the same problem with my Sirius plugged into the Aux port. Because my truck is a lease I didn't want to hard wire anything so I got one of these: http://www.boostaroo.com/ Works great! Almost CD quality. I have had it two years and only replaced the battery once.

Doesnt the 3sixty.1 have an AUX input? You could try and wire it into that.
When I get a chance today ill look over everything and see if I made a mistake anywheres and see if anything may help.
Read about this after I got my new sirius radio for christmas. I think they fixed the AUX in 06 so if you have an 05 or 04 you may have a weak aux input.

Someone recommended a radioshack part called a headphone amplifier. Less then $20 from what I read and may be available right at a store.
I had the starmate in my 06 and it was loud, louder then the radio. I put the same starmate into my 08 and it sounds great. I use a monster cable between the starmate and the aux. The sound quaility is better then the radio and about the same as the cd.
um.. I dont have any type of port for rca's to go in on my tuner box. I have the pioneer D3 radio so that may be why i was confusing myself when yall were saying stuff about the aux port.:fktardxpl

If you have the D3 then you have an AUX input on the back of it. What everyone is talking about is the small plug on the dash that is linked to the factory radio. It is a poor design that has very weak signal to the factory radio.

If I was you I'd buy the pioneer sirius tuner and get digital quality sound from your sat rather than using the aftermarket tuner.

I have the pioneer sirius tuner right now. The cd quality sound it says for like 2$ more a month is for the sound on the computer or for in our trucks to?
