I'm toying with the idea of buying a truck camper for my 04 kc titan. I've been doing some reading and the payload sucks on the titans and there's probably very few campers that will work. If I can find a 1000-1200lb camper then add gear and people I'll be a bit over the maximum. What should I get to make it work? Add a leaf? Newer shocks and which ones? Also I know the rear axles are weak on these trucks will it cause stress to the axle? Or just can the idea.

There are a few light weight ones, but they are more expensive than a small trailer. Not worth the price in my opinion.

I bought a tent trailer last year and it worked but sucked. There's alot of set up and the tent sucks for moisture and being damp. With a truck camper I can just roll up to a camp site. I would also like to tow a trailer with my 4wheeler and 12' boat on it. The other option is towing a toy hauler camper but they are crazy expensive. I also been toying with the idea of turning an enclosed trailer into a camper/toy hauler to stay light. Time for a 3/4 ton haha.

Toy haulers being expensive are just one problem that is difficult to surmount if you have a Titan. Toy haulers are very heavy in two ways. Mine is 11k lbs (gross). With no ATV and maybe 40 gallons in the fresh water tank it weighs 8k lbs. That doesn't sound so bad but the tongue weight was 1,300 lbs and that was with no propane tanks on the tongue. Plus, add in the weight of a weight distributing hitch (and propane) and you're looking at a good 1,500 lbs on the tongue - way too much for a Titan.

Knowing the Titan wasn't going to be enough truck, I have an F-350 6.7l diesel on order.

Those Capri campers are nice but even the mid size is right at the max for the titan. So basically these companies are telling me ford rangers and tacoma can carry this camper but I can't? Lol

For a cheaper "toy hauler" I was thinking buying a 14-16' enclosed cargo trailer. Put in some windows, counter and sink, put in fold up beds and table. The enclosed trailers weigh what 2-3000lb. I'd put what 1000lbs of extras plus 2 4wheelers. I'd be under the tow rating of the titan?

I have logged around 10,000 miles with my Hallmark Ute 8.5' with no issues. Firestone airbags. I averaged 8.5 mpg.

1,650 lbs dry, and it was mostly empty for the trip in the picture. Airbags and Torquelift Stableloads. I've yet to install the Stableloads on mine, it will help keep the overloads engaged after the airbags level it out. New shocks couldn't hurt.

I was thinking of an already built enclosed trailer and just add on to it like this

Tj what's the weight of that camper? I see you have a 6" lift? I'm basically stock. What would you recommend? New Billy shocks and air bags?
