I have 63,300 miles on my 2005 Titan. Recently it started "popping" when I was making turns both sharp and smooth. I had it looked at and the entire rack and pinion system fell apart during trouble shooting.

I called Nissan North America and after a week of discussion was told that they were under no obligation to assist me in any way because my warranty was expired. So basically, its ok for my steering system to fall apart (and be repaired at approximately $2,000) at 60,000 miles.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I plan to keep plodding along with my complaint to Nissan but I wonder if its a more widespread problem.

Is your truck lifted ? These trucks have weak racks so it is what it is. I know it sucks but things break...

No, my truck is stock. The only thing I added was a step bar. If the suspension is that weak, then the road I drive to work on could have caused a problem. I understand things break, but at 60,000 miles, I don't expect my steering system to just take a crap.

I agree. You will have to be persistant. Keep pestering Nissan and going up the chain to get coverage. It will be a PITA for you, but well work $2000. Threaten to never buy a Nissan again, call BBB, get a lawyer etc. Maybe you will get the right person and get it taken care of. Sorry about the bad luck but I agree 63k is premature failure.
