Anyone mount a vise on a tailgate? I'm thinking of devising a way to mount an flat steel or aluminum plate to the corner that has threaded holes to accept bolts to mount a vise when I need it...

I'll most likely buy a smaller newer one...but a vice that's sitting in the bed in a tool bag...then you mount on a adapter plate only when you need to use it..

Anyone done this? Or similar?

ive seen linemen that have a vise on the bumper of their rigs, i had one on a f350 with utility bed on it a while back. I think the best bet would be to mount it to a plate that you can slide into the towing receiver, it would be easier on your tailgate. The only downside would be the height you would have to work at and the tailgate would also have to be up...

we did something similar to that ^^^ but used an old ball might in the Rise position and welded a 3/8 plate steel to it for the vice mount. The welders at work did it for me and I used it to repitch impellers back in the jet ski days.
