Hey guys. I have no idea what's going on with my T. It's been like this since I got it. I'm only getting about 8mpg. It's a 2012 pro 4x King cab. I have installed a JSA catback and that's about it. I dont go heavy on the gas. The manifolds aren't cracked. Only had 49k. Any ideas what could cause this terrible mileage? Something simple maybe? I'm lucky to get 200 miles in a tank.

There could be several explanations, not all of them tied to the Titan itself. I recently had terrible mileage towing my race rig through Kansas. It turns out that Kansas stations near the interstate may be selling a higher content of ethanol than what I've been getting in other states- perhaps as high as E-10. Depending on where you live, ethanol may be a higher blend (especially as we get closer to getting those winter blends in) in the unleaded regular you buy...

I'm sure others have some ideas on what's going on. Was your mileage the same BEFORE you got the catback exhaust?

Dirty air filter
Bad catalytic converter
Bad sensor (MAF, O2, etc)
Bad wheel bearing
Tires underinflated

At the very least, I would go through and perform a regular maintenance: all fluids, filters, etc.

To be honest I'm not sure I was getting great mileage to start. I got the t about 4 months ago. Cats were in good order according to my friend who's a master tech who helped me do the catback. I haven't had a difference since the swap. I did have uneven air pressure. Tpms came on the other day. Had 42 on both front tires and 35 on right driver and 32 on right passenger side. Evened all out to 35 as per spec. I guess I'll go through the filters tomorrow. I have a 6 month warranty from the dealer so I may run it up there and have them take a peak.

Don't necessarily trust the onboard computer calculation for mileage. I see in you pic your average speed at the time you noted the mileage was only 8.2 mph. You probably hadn't driven enough since resetting the display to get a good figure. Reset and run the truck at 55-70 for 10 or 15 minutes, and I bet the mpg reading goes up significantly.

In any event - sorry if this is stating the obvious - the only accurate way to get your mileage, by my experience, is to fill the tank, note the OD miles, drive your normal driving cycle for a week or so, refill (noting gallons used), calculate the miles driven and mileage. Do that for a few tanks, and you will know what your mileage is running.

If it's still lower than 14-15 mpg for normal driving (no towing, no long times in stop/go), then you have a problem. Check and perform normal maintenance as suggested by HRTKD or head back to your dealer.

Good luck!

Well, i just filled it up so im gonna calculate it this week and see how it goes. I called the dealership and they said they won't even look at it until i run 3 tanks of gas through it with the exact calculations brought to them. I work at a car repair place so im hoping they can put it on the lift today and check to make sure a caliper isn't sticking or something silly like that. Have a look at this photo. Do you know how the T determines the range? Is it based on prior driving habits?

It's based on the on-board computer and prior MPG calculations from that. Don't trust it. Trust the odometer and your paper math. The truck always says I get 14-ish MPG.

If you're only getting 200 miles to a tank, unless you're filling up like 19 gallons you're probably around 8 mpg. I normally fill up between 24-25 gallons if I run to near empty.

My hand calculations were always within .1 MPG of what the computer said it was. It was so consistently close that I stopped doing hand calculations years ago.

I get about the same, 200-220 miles to a tank if im lucky. And about 180 towing a 5000 lbs trailer. But im a 10" lift on 35's. Everyone told me it was "normal".

As for a stock truck, probably not.

Maybe a newer Flex Fuel thing, but I'm usually around 14.5-15.5 mpg in mixed driving, and get 280-320 miles per tank. The truck is UpRev tuned, but I didn't see that change mileage much.

OP, shut 'er down when stopped. Idling will kill your gas consumption!

My bone stock 2012 4x4 SV cc is getting 11.6 day to day...
I filled it, drove 180 highway miles yesterday... (35) psi tires checked before I left. New air filter (200 miles on it maybe)... Filled it when I got back same pump.. 15.8 mpg
It's definitely an ethanol blend ( I think the pump says "up to 10%")

Sound about average? ( said missing my sequoia a little...)

BWV, that's on the good side of average... Highway driving can run higher by my experience, but if that was mixed driving - highway and some slower, stop/go, that's good.

Thanks :)
Cant wait to see what the OP gets after this week... at least I'm seeing more than 8.

Question for the OP:
Has there been any brake work?
Carrying heavy tool boxes?

Have you looked at the MAF sensor to be sure its clean? (Mass Air Flow..its in the intake tube near the air filter)
(others chime in.. maybe this inst an issue on Titans... but it does help calculate fuel ratio)

May I whine?
Don't get me wrong.. I'm keeping it.. I love it...I don't typically drive more than 75miles a week to work... and I know I bought a 5300lb truck with a large V8 in it.. but...

I'm a little disappointed.

I know it has a lot more power and a considerably larger engine than my Sequoia did (5.6 236kW/317hp/385ft/lb v 4.7 179kW/240hp/315ft/lb) ... but that (sequoia) weighed 500lbs(at least) more and was 10 years older...with 144,000mi on it... and I saw 13.8 around town and almost 18 on trips like this last one. I was just looking for the 13/17 the dealer promised when I said "how does this compare to my Sequoia that gets 14/18?"

I'm not going by the mpg meter (on either vehicle...in fact i fill up at the same pump almost every time) and I have never soft pedaled a vehicle like I am this one to try and get mileage.

/end whine...
