Good morning fellow Titan owners. I have followed the advice from this forum in the past and decided it was time to join the group. I am again in need for some advice. I have read about the cracked manifold problem our trucks are susceptible to, and I feel that my truck has fallen to this defect. I have not read about how long we can push off this problem until having to deal with it. Some background information to help with any feedback; the truck runs fine. This time of year I put about 300 miles a week on it. There is a small ticking sound at startup that lasts for about 30 seconds and then goes away. The truck has 100500 on it. It is a 2007 crew cab with a big tow package on it. The only intake/exhaust mod is a K & N cold air intake. It is winter in Washington and my truck does not fit in the garage, and I don't want to take on a big project like this in the rain. I know it may be hard to really know how long you can go, but any feedback will help. Thanks

You should be fine until the weather returns favorable for that kind of job. I'll tell you that there are some guys that don't know any better driving around with cracked manifolds with no issues besides check engine light, annoying tick and poor fuel economy. I would fix it the first opportunity available but you could drive that for another 100k as it is.

There are a lot of options out there, but do your homework. If emissions are not important to you or required for your state/county, I would recommend JBA Long tubes with Uprev. Others have also had great success with Doug Thorleys among others. Either way, unless you are going to replace with stock components (not recommended), JBA is the best cure and bang for the buck. You've probably heard about the Cajun guys, both are knowledgeable and will provide you with all the juicy details you want to know. Give those guys a call if you want to go that route, you won't be disapointed. Good luck and keep us posted.

By saying "winter is here in Washington" I'm assuming you mean Eastern Washington... not really winter in Western Washington. Unless you are in Western Washington, then yeah...not really winter.

There is not a manifold made that will hold up. When the codes appear the cats are failing and unfortunately engine damage can occur at that time. Several have had loss compression in the rear two cylinders and the motor is not cheap. The Cajun Stage 1 package is the best fix on the market and way better than the manifolds made. The labor involved as you have read is something you only want once.

Update on the dreaded P0420 code. I was going to purchase a used stock set of headers to "fix" what I thought was a cracked header. At the time I was short on funds and decided to wait. Long story short I picked up a set of JBA long headers and an UpRev tuning kit instead. Luckily I did, because what I thought was a cracked header turned out to be a nut that loosened up on the header making it out of torque spec. After removal of the header (which was a bugger to say the least) I noticed quite a bit of corrosion on the engine block which I am assuming was moisture getting in between the gasket and engine block. This is what clued me into the real problem. It would have been a bummer to have two sets of stock headers. At least I now have a set of JBAs and a great tune by Cajun Joe. If anyone would like to pick my brains on the install of the JBA headers let me know. I have a couple of tips that might help.
