The STRASBURG RAILROAD MEET on Sep 15, 2007 @ 8 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a lot of interest in getting the PA area Titans and MD/DE/NJ Titans together. One idea a lot seemed to like was to meet at the Strasburg Railroad in Lancaster, PA on Sep 15th, 2007. I have about 10-15 who already said they will be coming. So here goes:

STRASBURG RAILROAD - LANCASTER, PA

Parking lot opens by 8AM (maybe 7:30) and is Free

Thomas the Tank Engine is featured, with limited tickets available the day of the event.

Vintage Steam Train Rides throughout the day
Coach and Parlor Cars available
Thomas the Tank Engine is in town
Miniature Steam Trains too

Free Timing Advances from 8-9 AM.
See TitanBlue.

Lets all ride coach together at 10AM

Dinner at 5 PM at
"The Hershey Restuarant"
only 10 minutes away
Tons of stuff for a singles/couples/friends/families to do. The PA Railroad Museum is right across the street. The Toy Train Museum is just a couple miles away. This place is packed with Rail themed attractions. This is the #1 Railfan attraction east of the Mississippi! Beautiful Farmland Scenery. Bring your cameras and camcorders for this one!

I think it would be best for us to all meet up first (I'm arriving early, and will try to park at far end, so we can park together). Trains run about every 30-45 minutes or so.

For those who would like to, we can all go coach on the same run, say about 10 AM? Then go explore the rest for quite awhile. They have the best bookstore anywhere if you like train history. You'll find me there!

Dinner at: "The Hershey Restuarant" in Lancaster, it is less than 10 minutes North, at 5 PM. Moderately priced, excellent Amish/Pa Dutch cooking. They have menu or buffet. This will allow us more time to chat with each other and share what we all did, or just talk Titans! A great way to finish the day. Still leaves you time to get home the same day. Try the "Shoo Fly Pie", you're going to love it!

Check www.strasburgrailroad.com website and various links. We're looking forward to hanging out with all you guys. We are staying at the Econolodge South, in Lancaster, RT 30 Friday and Saturday. So we should be arriving at the parking lot very early. I'll be in the Titan with the Flames!

Titan Blue,

I'm going to try to make it and would be interested in a timing advance. I can use the thomas the tank as a way of getting it done and doing something for my kids as well. I'll email you before to be sure.
Nice! I've been to Strasburg several times! It's great! Make sure you check out the tour of the mechanics' garage! Neat stuff in there! A little later in the season - around October - they have a corn maze that's really cool! You take the train to the maze, spend several hours there with the attractions, and take the train back to Strasburg! They also offer a "wine train" many times throughout the year. No kids, though, so it's meant as an adult "getaway". Quiet, relaxing, wine and cheese served.... very relaxing. Nice choice of locations, TB!

Oh, and for you RR fans, Scranton has a really cool train exhibit, too. It's called Steamtown, but I'm sure you've already heard of it. http://www.nps.gov/stea/planyourvisit/tour07.htm

I may not be able to make this, but I'll definitely look into it!

Glad you posted, it's like 15 mins from me. I had some family out to visit a few weeks back and rode the train. Didn't make it to the museum though.

I'll plan on meeting you for the morning ride. I hear the Thomas Train days are hectic.
All the more reason I want to get their early! I came across Thomas there by chance one time, WOW! But it was still manageable. I want to watch them unlock the gates, I want in so bad...

I haven't made in to Scranton, yet, but it is on my dream list of destinations.

Haven't done the Shop tour at Strasburg either, but hope to this time. I've been going just about every year for 20 years! Love the Trains!

Look forward to meeting some new people. This is a great day to bring the whole family. Everyone can find some fun at Strasburg!

Yes Blackbeauty, this is the PA related news, I had for you! :)

54Warrior, they always find a parking place for everyone, I'll see you soon. :)

I should make it to this one. Drove by it on the way to college (Milllersville U ) for years ,but never took a ride. Probably will leave early to avoid all of the crowds for Thomas ,though. Looking forward to it.

It'll be good to get to meet you again Trout, didn't get to talk much in Jersey.

Baranx4, I like your choice of Mods, just think of where they can take you! hint, hint! :)
HERSHEY RESTAURANT INFO:

I called today to get a liitle info, just so nobody has any surprises.

They do take Visa, Master Card and Discover Card. (Whew! Some places I've seen, cash only)

Saturday Dinner Buffet Price List

Adults (13 and up) $20.95
Kids 9-12 $9.95
Kids 4-8 $7.95

They do offer discounts for groups of 25 who reserve ahead of time. I don't think we'll be able to do that, maybe nextyear we can, but I'm certain you'll love the food here. The full price is a bit higher than I am used to for a buffet, but it is worth it. It is far far better than the typical chain buffet. This is the good stuff.

We are still getting good responses from various forums, come on out Saturday. If you want to enjoy a culture, enjoy its food! Only 4 more days; hope to see you there! Titans at 7:30 or 8 AM, Train ride at 10 AM, Dinner at 5 PM...Titans, Trains, and PA Dutch cooking. it doesn't get any better than that! :)

I'll have my wife, 7 and 11 year old daughters with me. So bring the little one, he'll wake up when he smells the steam an cinders, you'll love the day out. Weather reports are looking great. Dont worry about being overburdened with a kid, we'll keep him busy! :)
Looking like rain in the AM.
