timing issue

Hi everyone. I lurk on this forum from time to time since I own a 2006, 4.0 L Frontier and am usually on the other Nissan forum. I posted this problem on the Frontier forum but got no answers. Hopefully, you all will have some input. I purchased a Bullydog and, before setting it up for a download, I noticed that my timing was at -33 deg. (supposed to be 15-17 BTDC). I am at a loss as to what is causing this. I have checked all over for vacuum leaks and find none. I recently had the ECM relay replaced but do not think that would throw the timing off this much. The truck runs fine which tells me that the ECM is covering the problem. No codes at all. I unhooked the battery for an hour to see if the reset would take care of it. No luck. If anyone has an idea, please chime in. All ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How does your Frontier run? If your timing really is off 16° to 18° it should be running like crap and I would think hooking up the Bullydog would be pretty far down on your list of things to do. Are you sure there isn't some problem with the way you are reading your Bullydog?
The truck seems to run well but, the gas mileage has gone to crap. Don't think I am reading the gauge incorrectly. I may just go to the dealer and get them to check it out for peace of mind if for nothing else.
That's exactly what I'd do. There's something screwy. False reading, something. As Quartz mentioned, it would run very poorly or not at all if it were really out of time that far.

Did you buy it used? If so, have you went to the "change vehicle" menu?
Maybe it's set for a different vehicle, engine and/or year than your Frontier?
