HERE IS MY UPDATE ON THIS

I'd like to express my immense gratitude to everyone who contributed to this discussion. Thanks to your insights and recommendations, I obtained a comprehensive Vehicle History report that shed light on various red flags associated with the car in question. According to the report, the vehicle has had two previous owners, has been involved in four reported accidents, and even has a history of theft. Combining the wisdom shared on this platform with the findings from the report, I have made the decision not to purchase this vehicle.

Here is a link to the report: Vehicle History Report for VIN: 1N6AA1E65HN509940

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the market for a used car, and I came across a 2017 Nissan Titan SV with a V8, 5.6L engine. The car is priced at $19,500, which is within my budget, but the title status is salvage, which is making me hesitate.
I was hoping to get some advice from the forum members on whether or not I should purchase a car with a salvage title. What are the risks involved? What are the benefits? Are there any specific things I should be looking out for when inspecting a car with a salvage title?
Additionally, I'm interested in any insights or opinions on the 2017 Nissan Titan and its engine. Are there any known issues or common problems with this model that I should be aware of?
Thank you in advance for any advice or insights you can provide.

Don't buy it if it has a salvage title. There could be (and probably are) many things that will go wrong for you.

Unless you are mechanically inclined, have all the tools, knowledge, patience and time to devote to this project, you'd be better off buying something else. You have no idea what happened to this truck to "earn" the salvage title.

Pig in a poke.

Hard no. A salvage title is going to be harder to insure, harder to sell, and invariably give you problems which are hard to diagnose and resolve. It will cost you more in the long run that you might save on the front end, by a wide margin. Again, hard no.

I've had a few salvaged titled cars in the past, some had no issues at all, other half had all kinds of gremlins.

A agree with the guys above. Walk away, there are plenty of Gen2 Titans in your price point or below. It took me months to find my truck, and it was worth the wait. Best of luck in your search.

I am different than everyone else as I have bought many salvage title vehicles but I would not get one of these computerized new vehicles that is salvaged unless I could talk with whoever owned it when it became salvaged and it was something dumb that made it salvaged, like the bed got crunched from something or something easy like that.

Owning a 2017, I love it but I would pass in a salvage title one because you need so much computer stuff to set the different systems up when stuff is replaced

Have a conversation with your local car dealer. Ask them if you were to trade that truck in with a salvage title what they would give you in trade or cash. I'm sure you will be very cautious of how to spend that 19k.

I have purchased salvage/rebuilt title cars. But was on the dirt cheap and was able to do a very good inspection before purchase. Plus it was going to a teen driver so I knew it would most likely survive very long. Which of course it didn't. ;)

And, the dealer probably will not mess with it since it's salvaged so you might be in your own paying a private shop to do the computer stuff for you, if you can find one

A salvage vehicle at the right price can be a good deal.

Might want to check with your insurance company to verify if and what they will cover..

Back to price…Plenty of 17’s out there priced the same without a salvage title…

I personally wouldn’t pay more that $14k to $15k out the door….. Save the $6000 for any surprises that pop up down the road…

Never purchased one personally, but I have a relative that has purchased a few. Biggest point he makes is knowing what caused the "salvaged" title. Somethings can be fixed/replaced, but some can't. My Titan was in an accident that cost the insurance company over $27,000 to fix. Just wondering what happened to that truck to earn a salvage title.

Flood salvage vehicles are the worst.. Electrical gremlins pop up continuously….

Salvage vehicles are ok, depending on what the reason is for the salvage brand. Flood vehicles "can" be ok if it was submerged in fresh water instead of salt water, salt water corrodes the electrical wiring causing all kinds of issues. Some insurance companies won't insure and some banks won't finance salvage vehicles. If everything checks out on the vehicle and you plan on buying a salvage vehicle, plan on driving it till the wheels fall off. Just my .02 cents.

Then we have to hear about how horrible Nissan is for not making salvage vehicles reliable….

Many years ago we welded up a cracked frame on a “totaled” Ram…

It had a red interior that matched the red salvage title…..

Oh hell no.

This is going to be harsh, because I have strong negative feelings about the early year Gen 2 trucks, but I wouldn't even buy a good condition one. Here in WA state, there's a 2017 or 2018 on CL with a blown motor. Guy wants like 10K for it.

If you are looking for a deal, get a mint Gen 1 with low miles. I passed on a 2008 with 20K miles for $9k because it was 2WD, still kicking myself for that one.

The current vehicle market has been making people desperate, they're willing to buy crappy vehicles at MSRP or above, willing to get into $1000/mo at 84 month payments or above, willing to chance a salvage title. Are you really that desperate that you can't settle for an older Tundra or Titan?

I agree, with salvage title, a backstory would be nice. Theft recovery and stolen interior would be the ideal back story, rear-end damage might be acceptable on a vehicle easily totaled due to low value (however, a newer vehicle totaled due to rear-ending could have been severely damaged). It's possible to get an OK deal, but the Gen 2 Titan isn't desirable enough to chance it, unless it was dirt cheap....

I feel the same way about the early Gen 2 trucks. I was looking at them in my search for a new Titan, but after I researched all the issues they have (thank you TT fourm) I settled on my low mileage lifted Gen 1 couldn't be happier.
