Hi everyone. I'm overdue for a tire rotation and noticed my front tires have about a 1/16 more wear on the outside, and my sidewalls are a little scuffed all around.
I was going to go to a tire shop and have my stock presser sensors installed, patch a nail I picked up, balance and rotate. I'm considering having the tires flipped on the rims since the tires will be off for the P-sensor install.
Tire shop said they wouldn't flip because they don't want to change rotation direction. Then I mentioned putting them on the other side to keep same rotation and they agreed to do it.
Anyhow now i'm confused because I thought you move the fronts to the other side rear for proper rotation, which changes rotation? Tires are Nitto Terra Grappler's. Thoughts on correct rotation for this flipping, or abandon the idea? Any help appreciated.

For a tire rotation, I was always told/always have done both rears to the front on the same sides and bring the fronts to the rears on opposite sides. I've never heard anything about flipping the tires on the rims as you suggested, so that's new to me.

I've had the best results in terms of even treadwear and maintaining roundness by moving the fronts straight back, and crossing the backs to the front. This gets every tire at every position over the course of about 15-20k miles, and keeps the rear from vibrating as much while it's taking the feathering off the fronts.

I put the wheels and tires on a little more than a year ago(1500+mi). I guess ill have to be more diligent. I think i rotated my cooper discoverers once the entire time I had them on the truck(40-50,000). They were bald when I bought these used.

Maybe the odd wear is due to the alignment being off ? Or something in the front end.

I installed the sensors, flipped them all on the rims, balanced and rotated them. Fronts went strait back, rears crossed sides up front. A forward cross effectively the same as a rearward cross because of the flip with the majority of tread on the outside. Took it on the freeway and it felt 100% with no vibration. Happy to see my TPMS light off. Thanks for input.
