Tire Rub after pinch weld mod?

3759 Views 26 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  StuntDriver06
before you flame me, i did do some searching around and found some answers.. but i wasnt able to find definate answers on some of these things.. help me out if you can..

with the stock rims (17 inch off road) and 2 inch leveling kit on my 4WD, and 315/70R17 BFG's i know i need to do the pinch weld mod to keep from rubbing, right? if i were to bottom the suspension out with these tires (straight or turned) would it rub? also how far up should i cut the pinch weld? could i just fold the pinch weld over and get the same effect?

also does $1010 seem high for bfg all terrains in this size with an alignment?

Probably
Cutting is more effective and easier.

see instructions for where to cut

^^^^^ i did the same
wtf... cut here... does that include welding it back together? I assume you cut it diagonally down accross the opening of the diagram... and yes I did have a few beers, but no I'm always stupid and the beer isn't an excuse :D
If you cant figure it out from the instruction in the other post you probably should not be attempting it

link is very helpful.... (no sarcasm intended)

probably what?
are your stocks worn out? If so how many miles? Im in the market for tires also but for 18 inch rims. The crapyears are worn out in 17k. Every tire dealer I called said they were willing to price match. You probably can get a better price it will just take some calling
did my calling around and that was the best price... and that includes alignment.....

stockers are worn out, at 12000 ( i was a little rough on them but they should have lasted a lot longer)

did you also cut the part at the bottom horizontal to the ground? (rocker panel i guess)

it just depends, doesn't look like Kart had to but I did .... I cut the area he has outlined in the pic along w/a small portion of that panel you're talking about, mine was rubbing bad prior to this hacking of the pinch weld/panel....

amount and area needed to be cut depends on your particular tire/wheel combo ...
after some more reading i think i may just get the tires first before i cut... i have the truck in the air right now with the fender liners out waiting to fire up the roto-zip... i just hate to hack away at my truck if i dont have to..... im using the stock OR rims with bfg 315/70R17's...

thanks for your input i love this website.....

Thats a classic TT quote if I ever saw one!!
oh, it's a pic of what USED to be there... I thought it was arrows showing where to cut lmao...

so it doesn't come apart after you cut that? or do you weld the panels together? because you're cutting off the spot where it's welded it looks like. I suppose I won't know til I cut mine.. man, weird thing, I bought a pack of sawzall blades because I wanted wood ones, and it came with metal bits too... maybe someone was telling me something :D

yup.

you really just need to go remove your liner a bit and take a look at what's being talked about .... after cutting/trimming down the pw, nothing's going to fall apart or anything, it's all quite harmless.
I'm not sure if you will even need to chop anything, since your sticking with the stock Rims. I think I have 285,70,17, But 35's look like they might clear with the stock rims. It will be close!
good point justin, if you're using stock wheels, you probably won't rub much .... I went from stock 18s (no rub) to Moto 951s (major rub), same tire size although current tires might be just slightly wider
got the tires today!!... they only barely touch but if i turn into a parking lot, like a mickey d's or something where there is a bump i can hear it rub, already did the pinch weld mod, no more rubbing!
