Titan 4x4 wheel size??

..I've noticed the Titan 4x4 2008 comes standard with 18" wheels. Wondering what the desigh philosophy is for going with this size wheel/tire. Better ground clearance??

08s have bigger breaks so 18" wheels are minimum clearance for them
Besides the bigger breaks, I think it is part of a conspiracy between the mfg's and the tire companies. You have to buy the bigger diameter tires to work on these wheels, and we will only make 3 sizes so we can make better profits on your hard work. Jackholes. Kinda like making all things radio intergrated so you can't add a radio. We should Revolt.
Exactly what he stated^^^ The "trend" seems to be moving toward the larger wheels also, the fact that the brakes requiring an 18" wheel was an added bonus.

Bhudda,

that's a FABULOUS truck man!! I tried to Configure one like that on the Nissan site months back and it wouldn't accept my inputs --it's a 4X4, CC, Long bed right? Awww - Now I'm heartbroken!!
*thanks*

Tire Selection
You're welcome!!

I was gonna go to 18" wheels then I started looking at tires and tire prices. For the selection/price you might as well do the disco and get 20's LOL

..so the brakes/rear end issues are largely solved in the 2008 Titan??
well I am under 3000 miles still, but no brake "judder" or fade yet, and I am HARD on a truck. I don't know if the seal I had go out on the 04 was a real issue or maybe me bumpin a curb. They fixed it and all, but I still am not sure of the root reason it was leaking.

Supposed to be. I thought the were, for the most part, fixed on the 2006+ models. (the brakes that is)

I just read about an axle seal issue on an 08 though, so who knows if the rears are fixed???
As far as the brake issue, I'm pretty sure it has been resolved.
I have 22k on my '06 and no problems.

One reason they might be going with the bigger wheels is because that's what customers want these days.
ie....how many aftermarket wheels do they sell in anything under 20's for trucks/SUV's????

Not many that I've seen.

there are some other threads in here that cover much of this but they made the front brakes bigger to increase the payload and help stop the beast better. This requires the use of a 18"+ wheel to fit around those massive rotors/calipers. Supposedly the rear end is the same exterior wise but the beefed it up inside. If they didn't use a different seal packing then that will probabally still go as before. If we all just keep a watchfull eye on our axle seals then we would probabally all be pretty much ok 04-08s, of course with exceptions.

There are probably more options in 17 and 18" wheels sizes than there is 20"+++
