Just had a question about how much electrical crap you can run in your truck before it causes any problems. I mean additional lights, tuners, etc. So far i have normal high beams, 35W 6000K HID lows, dual 6" KC's, BDGT, and iphone charger. Plans in the future for another set of KC's, and 35W 6000K HID fogs. Can i run everything at once or will i start to dim interior lights or something? I have no idea about electrical draw, wattage, etc.....i'm lost. Thanks guys

p.s. stock radio with zero plans to upgrade in the future

The HIDs probably draw less than the factory bulbs. I dunno how much juice your KCs suck, but Power (watts) = V (volts) x I (amps) where V = probably 13.6 volts from the alternator. Figure the alternator is putting out maybe 80 amps on the highway at around 2,000 RPM (unless there is a difference with the pulley that makes it spin faster) . So if the total load > 80 amps (or 130 amps if they max it out with the pulley ratio), the battery is discharging.

Hitachi alternator:

LR1130-701
12v-130A nominal rating
Negatvive ground polarity
1,200 RPM Minimun revolution under no load (when 13.5 volts is applied)

Hot output current (when 13.5 voltage is applied)

More than 78A/1,800 rpm
More than 108A/2,500 rpm
More than 130A/5,000 rpm

14.1-14.7V @ 25C regulated output voltage

6mm (0.24 in) minimun length of brush

1.0-3.432 N (0.102-0.3501 kg. 0.22-0.7715 lbs) brush spring pressure

26mm (1.02 in) Slip Ring outer diameter

2.1 ohms Rotor (field coil) resistance

WHAT? :bangit:

I've noticed my lows and highs can be on at same time as well as my KC's so really if i wanted to turn my fogs on too, will that cause any issues? I more than likely will never not be driving when all lights are on so no worries there.

KCs are what, 100 W each? so 200 W / 13.6 volts = around 15 amps. I don't think that will be a problem. If you know somebody with a DC clamp meter you can find out exactly what is going on. I have 800 watts in amps and the stock alternator was going broke at idle so I put in an HO alternator.

Right on, i have no idea what they are in fact they arent even true KC's its some off brand i believe. Just easier to call them KC's so people know what you're talking about. Sounds like i should be good then, thanks for the info bro

Oh, ok. I have done a lot of reading on these forums and I am impressed and appreciative of your knowledge. I'm an elevator constructor, I know that what you posted is just basic electrical theory, but it caught my eye.

The single most useful tool in most automotive wiring. The simple relay.

The cause of that was found to be an overloaded alternator causing a power failure in the relay that controlled the brakes.
Maybe he had all his lights on at once....
