After the fifth time of my driver side half-shaft popping out of the front differential I gave up and drove to the Dodge dealership. Ended up getting $10,500 in trade as is for the Nissan and purchased a 2014 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a hemi.

Besides that front differential I loved the truck. But I tried everything. Replaced the dreaded c-clip several times, even welded the output shaft to the gear inside the diff. Nothing worked.

I hope you guys have better luck with yours. As for me, I am looking forward to not having to look under my truck every morning for leaked gear oil and cringing when taking sharp turns over bumps!

Seems an odd issue... I have to say, in the 12 years I've been here, I haven't heard of this much. I would think it was just something wrong with your particular truck and 493,121 are ok. :dunno:

Good luck with your new "fake" hemi... I'd say I hate to see you go, but with 10 posts in 3 years, I doubt we even know who you are!

A simple Google search will show this wasn't an isolated instance, many of the results being from this very forum. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it. Nissan only tells you to replace the entire front final drive, which costs just short of $3,000. I was going to venture a used one under warranty for around $700-$1,000, but if the half shaft is pulling itself out I wasn't sure a differential replacement would change much and it wasn't worth the gamble.

At any rate it was a problem with my truck I tried correcting multiple times and ran out of viable options. I hope the same never happens to your own truck.

Oh and the hemi is real... I touched it and it makes the truck move forward and everything!

I'll tell ya, no matter what manufacturer you go to you're bound to have issues at some point. Some worst than others, but defects and problematic issues tend to occur in manufacturing and vehicles which require hundreds of moving parts to accomplish what we ask of them.

I've owned my fair share of different pickup trucks, and I ventured into the Titan Gen 1 models this year. So far I am extremely impressed by the engineering that went behind this truck. Enough to know that as much as I am a die-hard Ford fan, I'm never upset or sad when I'm driving my Titan.

Best of luck to ya bud!

The front differential was a problem, mostly on the early years. Specifically 2004 to 2006. Leveling kits as well as adjustable coilovers cranked up would make the problem twice as bad. I had coilovers on my '07 but only cranked up enough to almost level the front. I never had any problems but the '07 had an improved front differential that was less likely to experience the axle shaft problem.

From what I've read, it seems like replacing the c clip is just throwing a bandaid on it. especially replacing it several times. Seems like a front diff problem that should have been replaced by the dealer if you had a warranty, or the $1000 gamble if you wanted to keep the truck.

Oh well, good luck with the Ram.

I had issues with my 2010. Luckily for me, Nissan replaced the entire assembly under warranty. Good luck in your future endeavor's.

Front final drive is about $1500 and a couple hours labor, less than $2k, not anywhere near $3K, probably spent more than that on your new Import Dodge (since they're owned by Fiat now).

I've had pretty good luck with 2 of these trucks so far over 13 years. I have nothing against new trucks, but your reasoning seems odd to me. Why not just spend the 2 grand or whatever vs spending say 30 grand ( your cost after your trade in)? Even making payments you'll be behind in a few months. So if you were about to buy a new truck anyway, the differential didn't matter, and if you bought a new truck because you got sick of fixing the old one and not replacing it, that strikes me as odd.

Having had a dodge before my Titan, I'll just say best of luck to you. Mine had dozens of issues, including a rear different and the entire set of seat covers replaced under warranty before a year and 12k miles on the truck. It continued to break in new and different ways the entire time I owned it. So I hope yours is better, but I won't ever own another dodge.

I looked up dodge in the dictionary. Definition: to avoid. How fitting.

Best of luck with your dodge.

I traded out of a Hemi Dodge and into my Titan....prior to trading, I had put a new transmission in the Dodge about 3 years back....when it began acting up a second time, I was not going to go down that road again. C-clips are a temporary fix....rebuilding or replacing the transmission should not be. Here's the thing, the Titan came out in 2004 as a brand new design. The problem you had was discovered, and by 2007 Nissan had improved the front diff to address the problem. My Dodge was a 2005, and the transmission has been a known weak point for a long time now, as are problems with c-clips in the rear diff, the steering linkage, the MDS system that your 2015 has(unless you have the mega cab), notoriously bad ball joints, and several others. Nissan worked to fix the issue....Dodge kept using what it knew to be bad parts for years. Keep your eye on your alternator, I believe it is....they have been known to cause fires under the hood.

I've been to Hemi land.....I won't go back. After this Titan is done, I'll go get a newer one. Good luck with your Ram....from what I've experienced myself and what I'm reading right now, you're going to need it....

Titan is gone and I hope I never own one again.
Projo198, if the titan wasn't good for you it is your right to move on
Good Luck
I know the feeling and am definately considering dumping mine due to issues that Nissan refuses to address and refuses to speak directly to me about.
while the truck is running good with no problems it still sounds like dumptruck at 60 MPH!
Good Luck with the new truck

Everybody has a unique and different experience with any vehicle. We should respect each individuals experience no matter how different it was from ours. I personally have a 2004 4x4 crew cab Titan. It now has 434,000 miles on the original motor. I installed a used transmission that had 60,000 miles when mine went out at 400,200 miles. I have replaced the rear axle, exhaust manifolds and miscellaneous other parts but I have never had a more reliable vehicle and have been very pleased. I hope everybody has this experience with a vehicle at some point in their life. For me, I love my Titan and am actually looking at getting a new or newer one because I am finally to the point where I am replacing little things more and more and think I want a brake. We will see, I won't give up on this one ever. I just may have another to drive while I work on my original 1st generation Titan. Good luck to all of you.

Well, the dealership gave me $10,500 in trade for a 2009 Nissan Titan with 180,000 miles and a bad front differential, according to KBB it was worth between 6-7 thousand in good condition. Then they sold me a 2014 Dodge Ram with 60,000 miles and a 3 year warranty for $24,000, so I did pretty good.

As for the factory issues with the Titan's diff, mine was a 2009 so a few years AFTER Nissan supposedly noticed and fixed the problem.

Long short short between work, college and kids I couldn't keep spending my evenings under the Titan or risk spending a few thousand on a problem that according to Nissan doesn't exist anymore.

And even more than that; my truck my decision lol. Good luck to all of you, I did enjoy my Titan while I owned it.
