I think I already know what the answer is but I have to ask. I will be buying a new truck in the next couple of months and I am trying to decide if I should switch or not. Don't get me wrong I love my Titan and it has served me well for almost 150,000 miles. It is just that the design is getting a bit dated. I like the horsepower of the Tundra but I really think that it is butt ugly. I have looked at the new Ram and like the looks and the horsepower of the the hemi but I am concerned about the longevity of parts like the tranny, not to mention the company that makes it. Ford and Chebby? Forgetaboutit. Input please?

well really its up to you, although the titan is on the fence as far as continued production, id go for the second choice, my second choice was the tundra, but i did look at the new dodge before i bought my 08.5 titan. just make a educated dicision baised on what you like. im sure that dodge isnt as bad as everybody says, my brother in law has a cummings dodge and it is very nice, and has lasted him 3 years now.

I wouldnt think twice on the tundra. It has a bad interior and I dont like what Toyota did with the frame. It feels cheap overall and I cant believe the rave reviews it gets fron the media. I honestly think if anyone other than Toyota put out a product as bad as the current gen reviewers wouldnt be so kind to it. The Ram is pretty nice but its not rated to tow as much as the Titan and lacks a longbed that I was looking for. If you dont tow or haul anything thats real heavy then I would consider it.

That has to be my favorite comment, right out of car and driver. Your design is 5 years old, not new but not old compaired to what the big 3 do. The big 3 go for 10 years without a major change. if your looking to have newest look then any of the big 3 should do the trick even they are all ugly. Dodge is just a POS I don't care how good they look and you ever want to tow more than 6500 pounds that dodge won' do it. Tundra is just ugly, GM well I would be scared to buy and Ford well it's a Ford. I had a 3/4 ton 2008 Silverado for loaner car, i didn't like it, very cheesy interior. Sorry but if I was to buy brand new and only need a 1/2 ton truck it would be another Titan.

I would stay away from the new independent rear axle dodge rams. The new F-150 is nice. Cummins is a bulletproof motor, but it's in a dodge. The Ford superduty is the only light duty truck with a solid front axle, and the new 6.4 powerstroke is a nice motor. We all know the titan is sweet. The tundra seems to be nice as well, but there is still alot of debate about whether their new changes are actually improvements. Try everything twice, and then make an educated decision. When it comes down to it, get what YOU like best. Good luck!

Unless u tow every other day I wouldn't touch a diesel and I for sure wouldn't touch a 07 or newer diesel. The emissions crap is killing them and making them shop queens.I Came from a 06 doge 3500 CTD and as soon as I sold my toyhauler I sold my dodge and bought my T. Resale on T's are crap so unless u were keeping it for a long time I wouldn't get one and most likely its going to be killed off so that will make the values even worse.

He's right, the emmissions crap does suck, and it kills hp and reliability, but any good mechanic can delete the egr and dpf and then you're good to go. But IMO nothing compares to the diesel power, and if you do heavy towing often then getting a diesel is a no-brainer. If you don't tow at all, I would still consider a diesel...the resale value is much better than that of a half ton, and you get a way beefier rear end in the 3/4 and one tons. And making hp in a diesel isn't as simple as slapping on a programmer. That will work awesome for a bit until you start breaking stuff. In the powerstrokes for example you will have to replace the head bolts with aftermarket studs if you want any sort of reliability with a programmer. But that's not too expensive and after it's done you are good to go for a long time.

If I had to replace my Titan today I don't think I'd buy another, not because it hasn't been a great truck that has brought a lot of enjoyment, but because I've been limited by the towing/payload capacity a number of times. Instead I would buy a Ram 2500 4x4 with the Cummins and 6spd manual, that is a bulletproof combination right there. I won't buy another Ford truck and will never give GM any of my money.

Just my $0.02 after having a '97 Ram 2500 w/ Cummins and 5-speed manual, I had it until about 180,000 miles and never had any worries about reliability. Ran like a champ and held together fine, no rattles or squeaks.

U can add all the hp u want but u have to do a DFP delete either way all warranty's will be gone. The dealers go straight to the computers to find out what has been done to the truck programming wise.

I was in the same boat as you buddy! I went and test drove the QX56, Tundra, Ram 1500, Silverado. I also test drove quite a few cars but settled on a truck, the Ram.

The Tundra, that is one rough truck! It's nice by all means, BIG too. But I took it over this road that I have driven the Titan on many many times (gotta take this road to the highway) and it's kinda beat up. The Tundra..all over the place. I think they replaced the shocks with metal sticks because that truck felt even the slightest bumps. The Titan (mine) would go over the same road and feel only half the bumps. Mostly the bigger ones. The smaller ones I'd just hear creaks and cracks of the frame/body tweeking around. The Ram, same road, only felt 1/4 of the bumps. The ride was just slightly rougher than a luxury car.

Power wise, Titan hands down!..but for city driving. The throttle response on the Titan is instant..the Tundra and Ram there is a slight delay. And I also noticed on the Tundra (had 1/2 tank of gas), I went around a 90* corner at a stop light. I hit the gas, went to drive around the corner and the power completly cut out. I gave it more gas and it when the power came back on, it jolted forward..now I'm not sure if this was traction control or something worng with the motor? With the Ram, it's got power, just like the Tundra and Titan. However I took it on the highway, doing 60mph, and I slammed on the gas..MY GOD that thing hauled azz! It deff has high end power. Low end I think it'd give a Titan a run for the money but the throttle response kinda sluggish..

Interior, the Tundra..kinda ugly. I think it's too bright with all that silver. And the nobs. The stero is kinda far away to reach. I'm 6'4 so a tall guy with long arms and I found it kinda hard to adjust the stereo. I had to lean forward just a little. The Ram 1500, interior was laid out nice. Lots of storage and if you get a SPORT or Laramie they are especially nice with the console shifter. And the stich work on the leather dash, seats, console is a nice touch.

Overall I looked for these main things: Looks, Power, Ride (rough < smooth), Detail, Warranty. I picked the Ram over the 09 Titan because of the interior, smoothness of the ride, and the lifetime powertrain warranty. Plus a little of it has to do with the fact I've had a long list of issues with the 04 Titan.. And I currently own a 01 Ram SPORT and only one issue in 70k miles..so that also had a lil imput as well...

But if I didn't have any issues with my Titan..odds are I wouldn't be looking for a new truck. And if I was, it'd be a very hard choice between the Titan and Ram!!

I don't know what you mean by light duty truck but if you're reffering to light trucks in general (I'm assuming you are since you said Superduty) the 2500 and 3500 Dodge Rams also have a solid front axle along with the Ford F250 and F350. If you meant light truck as in the light duty half ton then none of them have a solid front axle anymore.

I hate to go against the grain as it would seem... but the new F150 is getting the best ratings out of any truck.... I know you said no to ford... but the Tundra is the biggest POS I have ever seen... the old daihatsu trucks are better than the new tundra... cheap cheap cheap is all it is with a huge price tag... the dodge is nice, but they wont be around long... the titan is a good truck, but it is getting dated and who knows whats in next for it... I have a chevy half ton and Im not to happy with it, but that will be changing soon with some more upgrades... but out of everything new, that F150 is the route to go... highest tow capacity, most available options, a ton of standard ones, comfortable, quiet, great on fuel, great power and the list goes on....

now before you guys tear into me, please keep in mind I see all these trucks torn down before anyone else does... I am a manufacture in the aftermarket industry... I see the frames, I drive them, I get to mess with them before they even hit market.... i literally was laughing my a$$ off when I got in the tundra and tore ir down... it was junk... the dodge did surprise me but they are still lacking in some areas.... the F150 blew me away with the changes they made... plus there is no doubt that the gas motor fords truly run forever... look how many taurus, tempo, escort and all the other POS cars are still running on the road... fords biggest problem ever was their partnership with navistar

I knew I would get a rise out of you guys with the title of this thread. As I said in my original post I would really like another Titan as mine has been a really sweet truck and Nissan has been good to me on warranty items. A Diesel is not even a consideration, I do tow a bit but nothing but a utility trailer with stuff my bed won't hold. I love the sound of the V-8 with an exhaust and don't like the clackety clack of a Diesel. Like I said before, even if the Tundra was perfect in every way it is still butt ugly so it is out. The Ferd and Chebby (09's are also butt ugly) are also not a consideration. So I guess it is off to the Dodge and Nissan dealerships for test drives. This time I am going to have the patience to get exactly what I want in options and color. I am looking at an LE in the Titan with everything except Nav unless they force it on me with one of the packages. On the Dodge I am looking at a Laramie 1500 loaded. Both 4X4 and both in white... I love my black truck but what a pain to keep clean! Regardless I will be pulling the trigger in the next few months. Thanks for the feedback.
