how do i convert my 285/70/17" in all english?

285mm/25.4 mm per inch = 11.22" wide, but how tall is /70mm/17 ?

edit:

thanks ricqik.

200+200+431 = 831mm/25.4 = 32.7"

so a 285/70/17 tire is aout a 33x11.5.

The 285 is tire width in mm from sidewall straight across to sidewalls. The 70 is the sidewall height % of the 285mm. The last one as you know is rim diameter.

So 70 is about 200mm tall(8"). That's your sidewall height. A 285/70/17 tire is approx 33" tall overall.
So 8+8 = 16 + 17 = 33?
