and i find it funny you will condemn me for this but applaud a load of sod, that easily weighs what this camper does and is narrower and not as well supported
Haha, good one brother! Let me say first off I'm on the side of believing the truck can do more than thay say, especially if you're talking about short periods of time .... Hell I can run pretty damn fast, but not for a long time. That brings me to the other point... I'm no professional landscaper, so I won't be hauling a load of sod every day, week, or maybe never again actually...
I had a Frontier before my Titan, and I was remodeling my house. I had a brick fireplace that I was removing and a buddy who was staying with me was helping with the labor. I went to work one day to leave him to load the truck. When I got home the bed was filled with bricks and concrete, and house doors we had removed were slid into the side to extend the height of the bed up level with the roof and it was FULL... I almost died when I saw it... and we had a little bit more that wouldn't fit so we hooked up my little motorcycle trailer and piled the rest on it... The leaf springs weren't just touching the bump limiter, they were firmly pressed against it.
Mind you I did think about it for awhile, but in the end decided the dump is only about ten miles away, all slow driving, and now that it was loaded I wasn't going to spend the energy to unload it then reload it to make two trips.
The whole way to the dump I was sweating, just waiting to hear a loud pop or bang or something (we're so foolish when we're young, nothing can happen to us) but I went no faster than 35 mph, and took turns like I was balancing a pyramid of champagne glasses on the hood... sure pissed some people off.
In the end on the scales at the dump the whole rig weighed 9,500lbs... yeah. I weighed the truck empty on one of the trips to the dump at it was around 4,000 (V6 ex-cab 4x4)... and my little trailer weighs 300lb itself.... so still an easy 5,000lbs in the bed of the truck, and no ill effects.
Don't worry I'm not stupid enough to think this was a good idea or something that should be attempted again, but it still makes for a hell of a story
And I sure miss that truck...
Cheers,
-Josh
