To Titan, or not to Titan?

I ran into a Titan owner yesterday who was trading his 4x4 05 crew cab in for a Tacoma. He told me it costs $77 to fill up and that I may want to reconsider getting one. I am in the makert for a Blizzard 4x2 SE Crew Cab with no other options. Still debating over the 05-06, or just getting 1 period. Got a quote for $22950 for the 05 and $24200 for the 06, but the $77 fillup has me handcuffed. Are you guys thinking about trading now that we are headed for $3 a gallon? I would really appreciate your input.

I think ANY truck you get is going to be tough on gas, unless it's a 4 cylinder.

I'm worried about gas, but not so much that I will get rid of my truck. Where I live gas is only $2.40 p/g 87 octance.
In the end its you has to decide if its worth it, but for me, the versatility, the room, the POWER, and all the other pros outweigh the one con-gas. So, I'm keeping it.

We have talked about this before, you might want to try a search to see the other thread, there may be people who replied in that one who will not reply in this thread.

HELL NO! I bought the Titan for a reason, a reason the Titan can fulfill, a Frontier or a Tacoma would not meet my objectives.

If you are concerned about the price of gas you have to ask yourself why are you getting a Titan and do you need such a wonderful beast.

In addition you also have to figure out exactly what the financial savings will be, the mid-size truck compared to a full-size. I suspect you may discover if you are comparing a mid-size truck to a full-size one there will not be a huge difference in gas expenditure. Now if you compare a full-size truck to a small economy car sure, there will be a huge difference, but will the economy car fulfill your needs?

oil prices hit an all time high last week at over $66 a barrel. it's not down to $64 a barrel as of a few days ago. this is due to the increase in demand and the lower production capacity due to repairs etc. gas prices will definitely drop after labor day which is kinda the unofficial end of summer traveling. in the meantime, use other potential buyers' reluctance to buy a 14-18 (EPA) mpg vehicle as an advantage at the dealership. these guys wanna sell these things! if no one is fighting you for it, you should get a great deal! it should be well under invoice.

where are you located?

If you're concerned about gas prices, don't buy a V8 if you're income can't comfortably justify it. JMO.

Well lets see. I needed my titan for towing, I had a frontier. Now let me analyze my fuel costs.

The frontier would take about 15gallons every time I hit the station with a quater tank, per my log book I was averaging 15.5mpg. My day to day driving was 10 miles to and from the train station and maybe some around town errands with a possible trip accross town by highway.

I move on to the titan. I fill up at 1/4 tank and usually takes 17-18gallons, Per my log book (only 1500 miles long) my current running average for around town driving is 14.8mpg.

The on difference I see, is that my frontier had a tonneau cover, which after a month of driving did give me an extra 1mpg. If the cover I bought for the titan does the same for me, I feel its worth it. So sure I lost 1mpg going from the 6cyl manual to an 8cyl auto, but I dont have to floor this truck to get moving so its not an issue.

Imagine the worst short term scenario. If you are not able to afford, or just can't stand the thought of paying $100.00 per week in gas, then don't buy the Titan.

I personally would rather drive my truck and spend that kind of money than drive an econobox for half that in fuel costs.

You will have the same problem with any 1500 size pickup regardless of maker. They all have basically the same mileage varying by only a mile or two per gallon. Titan owners seem to get less because like me they enjoy hitting the gas too much. The acceleration is just to satisfying. :teethmast

There's no way I'll get rid of my Titan for another truck no matter what the gas cost is. Like someone said earlier, I bought my Titan for a reason that the others cannot fulfill, and I consider myself a very picky person. For whatever a person's reason is for getting rid of their Titan, as long as they are aware that they are sacrificing in every way imagineable then they are the ones that has to live with that. Gotta pay the cost to be the boss!!!!!

Who says you have to fill it up? Just buy 2/3 a tank and you won't be handcuffed.

If you NEED a truck then you will pay for the gas. But if you just want the Titan just because it looks good, then get a car, because you do not need a truck.

as long as its all downhill...
when you think about that... if you measured it over just 1 gallon of gas... that's a 96 mile downhill slope. where can i find one of those :jester:

Its a truck, I traded in a 2000 ram V-10 1 ton that had to use premium because of the mods, 7mpg up hill, down hill or sideways. it also had a 35 gallon tank. $3.00x35 and you get a $105 that goes 220 miles on a tank full. It becomes a money pit really fast.

I am elated with the 14 to 16 mpg I get in the Titan. Its saving me a ton of money.

I am happy, I filled up today and with a mix of highway/city driving, I averaged 15 miles per gallon and I have a heavy foot. The Titan has improved the last several tanks, it was getting 13, but now with over 3,000 miles it is up to 15. This is a four gallon increase over my old dodge 5.9, and its much faster. The last two tanks have averaged 15.

I agree with everyone else. If you don't need a truck, or don't think you'll make use of it (not that you need to haul stuff everyday) then it may not be great for you. The fuel costs of owning a Titan can overtake the payments you'll make on it, but this can be said for almost any V8.

That being said, I've had the truck just over a month and have only used it to haul things about 5 or 6 times (a couple mattresses, medical records to a city dump, hauling a table and chairs, etc). It's a really nice asset to have and OMG is the Titan the best one to get! You'll really enjoy driving it, I'll put my money on that.
