Towing Improved With This Mod.

:) The modification I'm refering to is the 2 deg base timing.
Just got back from my holidays & completed my milage calculations.
I towed a 25' trailer, 3 weeks of food, 40 gals fresh water, 5 20 litre bottles of water, 300 lbs firewood, 3 bikes, 3 kyaks, bbq., 3 people, 1 cat. To say the least I was loaded.
12.5 miles/gal or 22.75 L/km best tank. Average for 2403 km trip was 11.8/26.
I've only done the timing without TBS. This is a 1.5 mile/gal improvement.
The flat spot through 2500 3000 rpm is now gone & has useable power from 2500 to 3500 rpm, that in itself is a 500 rpm improvement.
This was/is one modification worth doing.
P.S The milage improvement has been seen with my daily city drive to the tune of 16miles/gal 18L/km.

Thanks for the info...
Who did you 2 Deg base timing? Is this something the dealer can do?
Whats TBS?

Here are some instructions you can take to the dealer.

Titan04, thanks for the review. I am also looking at having the 2º advance done. Little by little I'm making my truck a better tow vehicle. So far, air bags, muffler sway, air box mod, true flow air filter, TB Helix. I am getting some LT tires soon and going to see if my dealer will do the 2º advance.
Thanks for the information. I was thinking about doing it and that was the one thing I was worried about...towing, power loss or milage. Again, useful and Thanks.
Besides the 2 deg. base timing adjustment, are there any other engine tweaks that could be performed? Has anyone run into problems when asking a Nissan dealership to perform them? How do these adjustments effect factory vehicle warranty?
I just purchased and installed a VK Pro from Stillen (stillen.com) who specialize in Titan aftermarket products. They "claim" that with their piggyback ECU unit (timing and fuel curve), the HP is increased by 30. I've definitelly noticed that the throttle response is better. I tow both a 3,000 lb. utility and 5,000 lb. boat tralier up and down hills in 90-100 degree weather with no problem. I've also purchased a Big Brake Kit, sway bars and air box from them. All appear to be very well made.

Do you have to run premium?

VK Pro required a minimum of 91 octane.

Keep in mind you cannot have the 2* advance with the VK Pro.
I agree, there has to be a little more useable torque. I tow a jet ski down the same roads and with the 2 degree advance my truck doesn't down shift on hills like it used to. Now, my jet ski only weighs maybe 1000 pounds but I do notice a little difference.
to the question if we have had problems with dealerships doing the 2* I had the dealership do mine but I also talked to the machanic which has a built frontier. but there are guys that have the programmer that can do it cheaper it cost me about $50. post it in the performance section for and ask if there is anyone in your area that can do. or find a titan meet
I need to find someone in the bay area to do this.
when i towed back the race car (about 3500lbs) from buffalo i averaged about 12mpg. i had about 17 mpg going out with an empty load

all this with just the air box mod and the 2* advance timing

Throttle Body Spacer
is the air box mod and the tbs the same thing?

No the airbox mod pertains to the factory airbox where your air filter is. On the other side of that intake tube is your throttle body.
