The Trail Grappler's are quite possibly the worst M/T ever. From my experience anyways. Maybe I have a defective set, highly, unlikely.

I've got 18k miles on them in 15 months. At the rate they're wearing they'll last 23-25k miles. They won't even last me 2 years after spending $1,400+. I was told they would last at least, at least 30k miles.

The tread leaves a pattern on the concrete and asphalt. A perfect tread pattern of thick black dust.

My fender had a battle with the Grappler last year. The fender shredded the tire. I had to have it replaced after 3-4k miles. Sheet metal 1, Trail Grappler 0. (Pics of that war tomorrow).

I'm going to send Nitto a letter with pictures, when I get a quick hour this week. I'm not expecting much, just a response would satisfy me I guess. Best case scenario, I get a new set of 4 tires, (very unlikely), which I'd sell for cash, for some General Grabbers. :eyebrow:

/rant. Not looking for anything, just had to get that off my chest.

You are right on....

Now....Next time you need a M/T tire......BUY ONE!

The T/Grappler is NOT a M/T...It's an All Terrain tire.......:ftard:

Not to be argumentative, but I had almost the exact opposite experience with the trail grapplers.

After 33k miles they still had 1/3-1/2 tread left. This was on an 08 GMC 2500HD Crewcab diesel 4x4. Incredible traction in the snow and mud.

Thats interesting that you had those problems and thats a bummer to hear you had a bad experience with them. Everyone i know that has them loves them and get great mileage out of them. I love mine but I have less then 5k on them so i cant say much for mileage yet other then they are showing little to NO wear. Alignment, tire pressure, good rotations and driving habits all have an effect on how they wear.

This is the tire that got molested by the front driver side fender. This tire had 3k miles on it. You can see the sheet metal just took chunks out all around the tire.

Insurance wrote it off because it was unsafe to use. They gave it back to me, which I use as a spare if I need it.

Please show me where Nitto lists it as an A/T...

If it's not an M/T, what is?

Post a picture of the tread pattern from an Open Country M/T and a Trail Grappler M/T.

I have a friend with with a Lincoln Mark LT on a 6 inch fagtech.. his brand new Toyo m/t 35x12.50r20s were slicks in about a year(13k miles)... No alignment issues, he just drove like an idiot and never rotated them..

Just food for thought..

Yep I do rotate them every 5-6k.

I've got more torque than a majority of Trail Grappler owners, which doesn't help.

Oh well, once these are cooked, on to General Grabbers.

I've been pretty happy with my Trail's. I've got about 15k on them and I'd say they're about half gone, but I don't expect good tire wear in Florida between the heat and the crushed shells in the pavement.

With that being said, when these are toast, I'm probably going back to the Terragrapplers, primarily because of the wet traction. The Trails are decent, but the Terra's were awesome.

Sorry to hear you aren't going to get the mileage you were expecting from your tires. Not every tire is great for everyone and there are a lot of factors that can determine the miles you will or won't get out of your tires especially when it comes to MT's. . From a quick glance at your photos it looks like you've got some uneven wear. It almost looks like they are wearing more down the middle than anywhere else. If this is the case, the tire's pressure may be off. Running too much or too little air in your tires can quickly speed up the ware rate of your tires. This could happen to any tire you choose to run.

BTW, what caused the contact with the fender? The sheet metal of your fender can be super sharp. It can easily slice through a tire.
