Tranny Temp Gauge too deep?

651 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  SirKeats
My autometer tranny temp gauge came in yesterday and I was just dryfitting it into the hole where the 4x4 stuff usually goes (the standard spot for those of us with 4x2's to mount said gauge).

The gauge is too deep. There is a plastic plate behind the faceplate that I'd be mounting into that prevents the gauge from going in all the way.

Is it safe for me to drill a hole through this secondary piece of plastic? Has anyone else had this problem?

I got the sport comp II gauge (PN 3649). The gauge itself is 2.75" deep (including the connector posts). The mounting bolts though make the full depth about 3.25".

Thanks for the help gents!
