Hi I am new to the forum. Can I disconnect the front drive shaft from the transfer case without causing any damage? I only use 4 wheel drive 4 months out of they year and dont need to waste money on spinning front axle. Also does any know what type of fluid is in the transfer case? Thanks Jay

Nissan matic D fluid for the transfer case. Not sure if it would cause damage, but do you really think disconnecting the driveshaft will help much considering the dif will still be spinning?

I think you'd be peeing in the wind so to speak if you think you would gain much by doing so. You may save yourself a small amount on wear and tear but that would be very minor and would be pretty much all you'd save. IMO
