I've been doing a lot of research and talking to people about a clicking noise coming from my transfer case. I believe I had a feet shear a tooth. Is it more beneficial to crack the case open and replace that gear, rebuild the whole case or buy a rebuilt one?

One person I talked to said if I replace my transfer case I have to replace the rear diff also because the two wouldn't mesh.

Is there any truth to this? Any part number associated with a rebuilt case?

You don't have to replace the rear diff. That sounds like a load of cokamammy. Tcase is simple simple design. I would try to do the work myself but plan on replacing the unit...but...I would really just ride it out till it breaks then get a new one.
