I replaced the hoses from the tranny to the Radiator. The old ones were not cracked, but were ROCK HARD. Nissan used some crappy hoses there. I am going to replace that hose that comes off the Oil filter screw on thingy. that is hard also.

Maybe the J matic fluid is corrosive somehow to Rubber or gates makes some crappy hose.

I would tell everyone to do this. the 2004 is getting old! better do it now!

Yup, this is a common problem. Since the tranny fluid hose going to the radiator is a $12 part and takes virtually no time to change, I would certainly reccommend changing the hoses as if they were a consumable item (every 3 years or so).

I have some pic's of my OEM internal trans. cooler lines when they were leaking. I replaced the crappy OEM hose clamp's w/ SS "worm" hose clamp's.

Here's some pic's:
before

After

Make sure the clamp's are seated properly to avoid this in your driveway:

Happened to me last week. Towed to the dealer.... $554 + towing

If it is a known problem, shouldn't it be recalled or something???

Wow, this seems to be happening a lot lately...

I bought 10 feet @ $1.50 a foot as well as an additional 2 quarts of fluid and some extra screw clamps. I wanted extra of everything to leave in the truck so I don't ever get stuck on the side of the road again.

That's disgusting that the dealer charged you $554 for what amounts to $85 worth of OEM parts (hose and 6 quarts of fluid) and about 15 minutes of labor.

I replaced all when the radiator failed.. 10 ft. of hose, worm clamps and a quart of trans fluid are part of the emergency kit.

You'd think it would be but recalls only apply to safety items.

Happened to me a week ago too...this is happening way to often right now. I wonder if it has something to do with the weather starting to get warm again from the cold temps we've been having...
