So I decided to change the transmission fluid myself the other day, didn't think anything could go wrong right, to easy of a job? Well I drained the fluid from the pan, took the pan off and changed the filter, put the pan back on an filled the tranny back up with the correct amount of fluid. I did not touch any of the wires, I even redrained and checked everything to be sure, all wires still connected and fine. I used the Castrol that's suppose to be the equivalent to matic J, yes I know nissan calls it matic S now. So the problem is that it seems like it's not hitting the last gear and that it drives at a higher rpm than normally. Used to be able to go 70 to 75 and be at 2k rpm, now it's at almost 3k at that speed. Also got it throwing a code p0740 and p0745 which says, torque converter clutch solenoid circuit and p0745 says pressure control solenoid. So my question is, how the he'll can changing the oil and filter on the tranny without touching anything else cause this? What exactly needs to be fixed and what organ am i gonna need to donate to get this fixed? Oh and she's a 07 4x4 with 120k miles and 6 inch RC lift.

Are you absolutely sure the level is correct? After I changed mine I didn't get enough fluid in. It was quite sensitive to the right level. A quart low was enough to cause problems.

On the dipstick it showes in the middle of notched area so [///////////] right in the middle of that. I did call nissan and the guy said not having actual matic s fluid in it could make it do that but idk how true that Is? I'm sure other dont just use matic s fluid and thier trannys are fine.

I call BS on the type of fluid. Get that fluid level up to the top of the hatched area and try again. Be sure to run the transmission through all the gears before checking the level while the engine is still running.

I've used AMSOil in the past without any observed differences.

The transmission fluid is not the culprit. You either had a per-existing problem or created one possibly when you had the pan off and changed the screen.
Did you have the battery unhooked when you did this? Have you cleared the codes and how does it shift with them erased or do they return right away?

I have a similar setup, however I do not have any transmission issues. I second the idea of filling the transmission to the full line on a level location. I do know that the RC lift seems harder on the transmission since it works harder to maintain speed. Occasionally mine will stick in 4th gear while going up hill under moderate acceleration. It sounds backwards but I get mine to shift by feathering the accelerator and holding it steady. I would clear the codes and secure your battery connection. A bad battery connection can cause all kinds of random ghost symptoms to pop up

@CVTitan lets try not to confuse people. I am sure he replaced the screen/filter, and it can be referred to as the filter and purchased from a auto store for replacement if people opt not to clean it or do not have the material to do so.

I did not read at the end of the OPs post that you have a 6" lift, I am sure you are running larger tires?
Those codes point towards it having problems with the TCC lock up which happens in your high gears 4th/5th and your line control solenoid. The lift and the bigger tires could have put added stress on the transmission and did damage to the TCC clutch or higher gears frictions/steels.

You did not have any symptoms prior? Have you been able to clear the codes and see what makes them return?

I would say your on your way to a reputable transmission shop in your future if you are not able to get the codes diagnosed yourself.

Take to someone who is familiar with the JATCO and has proper diagnostic equipment to work on it.

Does your truck have a transmission temp gauge, did you have a external transmission cooler added? What did the fluid look like that you dropped out and the pan/screen?

I did not have the battery unhooked when I changed the oil and filter for the tranny, didn't think I needed to for that. when I clear the codes it appears immediately after I clear them. The tranny was fine before I did the oil change, it had no problems. now it clunks when I shift in certain gears, just started doing that.

Im running 35s, and my titan ran perfect. No tranny problems whatsoever, the oil was a dark red like it was dirty...trust me it needed the change lol I hadn't changed it for a long time, like 50k miles long. But like I said no problems with the tranny, shifted fine and never made any noises. When I clear the codes it immediately comes back. The tranny light in the dash flashes when I turn the truck on and then it stops and turns off after about 3 or 4 seconds and the CEL light stays on. I don't think the lift kit had a part in the tranny going out, or I probably would have noticed decreased performance or felt/ heard something. I have a feeling something about changing the filter and oil maybe messed one of the solenoids up. Im going to take it to allied transmissions here in town and they will diagnose it with their machine for $65, I just hope it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. Oh and I do have a temp gauge stock one, the temps fine and no I don't have a external transmission cooler added.

Dark red isn't to promising and leans towards burnt fluid. Am not sure what gearing you have but the transmission and more importantly the torque converter creates a lot of heat when it is locked up. Add the larger tires and lift kit and no external cooler not good for the clutch packs fluid or TC friction. I would look into investing into a cooler, TruCool LPD coolers are a good choice.

Look forward to hearing what your diagnoses is from the A/T shop.

Edit:
I know these early model T's love lugging around in 5th gear and I hated the way it did that. I installed Transgo shift kit when I had to overhaul my transmission and it corrected that and should be something you look into if a rebuild is needed. The lift/tire combo and lugging around in 4th and 5th gear with TC engaging and disengaging would build up a lot of heat as I mentioned above.

Did you put all of the bolts back in the correct holes?
