I would feel much better knowing I have a rebuilt tranny. Buying used, you never know what shape it's in. If you can get some type of warranty on a used one, maybe it's the way to go. If you plan on keeping truck, my choice would be rebuilt. I know finances come into play as well. Maybe someone here can chime in. I hope to not have to make that choice anytime soon. Good luck.

Yes....definitely finances come into play plus vehicle is 8 hours away. It is my son's truck and he is away in college so i am trying to figure it out from afar. Mechanic is against a used one as well just trying to get a feel and momma bear looking out for her cub. Thanks for the reply

If I still had my Titan and the transmission went out I would rebuild the one I had. I would be going with Level 10 Transmissions (in New Jersey I think) but that would be a premium rebuild, not a budget build.

The Level 10 transmission I put in cost $5000. Installed, programmed, OTD.

But that included replacement of the trashed transmission mount, new lines, and a couple other odds and ends plus the reprogramming of the ECU for the new trans. So, the straight-up cost of a Level 10 versus a stocker replacement are about equivalent in price if that's all you have done.

On their site, the Level 10 for the Titan is $3998. Compare that to $3500 for a stocker, and it's a no-brainer.

Bottomline: The Level 10 is 50 times the transmission the stock one is, even in rebuilt condition. And no, you're not saving any $$$ to speak of. You're just getting cheaper junk for about the same price. Do yourself a favor and at least give Level 10 a shout. You have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time.

I have no clue how this is done. First time on here to ask a question.
My trani broke down second time in 2 yrs on my 2007 titan LE 5.6. Would it be wise to purchase one online and have a shop install? I don't have that kind of money to have a brand new one installed. Only one working. It first broke down at 97K mi. Now has 103k and has broken down again.

If you only have 5000 miles and it died again, you should check your warranty. Even rebuilt transmissions come with them... Cuz 5000 miles ain't nuthin...
