Hey Titan owners.
I apologize if someone has already discussed this but I am in a huge delimma right now. My truck is a 2006 King Cab 4x4, with 89,000 miles and I have to go to work on Monday. Today, my transmission's gear shifter locked up on me.
This evening when I got in my truck it would not shift out of park. I read my owners manuel and learned that I could manuelly override my gear shifter with a screw driver. When I did this, my truck shifted into drive w/o a problem. However; my truck will not shift without the use of the screwdriver now. If I am in park it won't shift to drive.
If I am in drive, the truck won't shift into neutral or reverse w/o the screwdriver. When in reverse, I can't shift without the screwdriver either.
My transmission seems fine when pulling out, backing up, etc. (except for the fact that I have to use the screwdriver.)
A little history about my truck: I had the transmission flushed at the Nissan dealership about three months ago. Also, I just purchased an ultralight camper. (6,200lbs.) I have pulled the camper one time. (approx. 130 miles round trip.) I do not regularly haul with my truck and I take very good care of my Titan.
When the shifter locked up today, I had a load of wood loaded into the bed of my truck. A tree needed cut in my back yard so I decided to cut up the tree and haul it to my neighbor for extra firewood. Even after I unloaded the firewood, the gear shifter would not move without using the screwdriver.
Is my truck's transmission shot? If so, should I "upgrade" to a heavier duty transmission? Where would I get something like this done? Or, is there something else going on with my truck?
Anyone have an idea of how to fix my problem?
