The Titan owner's manual says, "Do not attach the key fob with a key holder that contains a magnet."

They are saying that the magnet will damage the transponder chip in the key.

I seriously doubt that the magnet in a Hide-a-key holder would damage a transponder chip---but as expensive as the keys are, I don't want to risk it.

Has anybody had any experience (good or bad) with transponder equipped keys in a magnetic Hide-a-key holder?

I would like to hide an extra key underneath the truck for that inevitable time when I need it.

I do this ..with a dummy key.....I have a key and cut the plastic off and thus removed the chip.....bought it on eBay....I use it to open the door and it's in a magnet hide a key box under the titan....

Then.....hidden in the truck I have another key with a good chip to turn on the truck....

That 2nd key I have never used...as the main issue is locking your keys in the truck....so the dummy key gets me in the door....

Now if I drop my keys in the lake....then I'll have a need for the 2nd chipped key...

same here unchipped key hidden outside the truck, chipped key hidden inside the truck. I've had my truck lock itself when it was running and I shut the door to go grab something real quick.

Great idea!

As a matter of fact, I already have a cheap non-chip duplicate key that I had made at a local hardware store. It opens the door just fine. That is the one I will place in the magnetic Hide-a-key.

Thanks and thanks FishnAlaska.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I've not locked my keys in the car in many, many years, since the key fobs came out, but knowing that the Titan does like to lock itself under certain circumstances, it's not a bad idea at all. In fact, I'm paranoid enough about this that when I go to the dump or some other chore where the truck stays running, I roll down the driver's window.
