Trash smell when it rains

This may sound odd but if it rains a lot the inside of my Mom's titan starts to smell like a garbage can. We have brought it to the dealer's attention before but that it didn't smell to them or something along those lines.

This has never been a major issue because we live in San Diego and it very rarely rains, but it is still annoying when it does happen.

I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences and if there is any kind of remedy for the problem.

Does it happen with the vents on or off?

Does it clear up when it dries up or the temperature heats up?

People have had a musty order when their A/C line was kinked...

Sounds like maybe you should change the in-cabin air filter if it has one. Another thing to check is to make sure that you don't need the a/c drain TSB done, you'll know by seeing if the passenger's floorboard is damp because rain season can cause excessive condensation.

It has been documented many times when the humidity increases outside that mold on the inside of the vehicle can grow causing this musty, garbagey smell. The mold is pretty much everywhere in the environment, but the moisture collecting in the car gives it a water source for growth.

As stated, I would guess either she needs the A/C drain TSB or could have a leak somewhere in the body. If not A/C drain leak, these leaks can be tough to find. In any case try and get the carpet replaced and A/C drain TSB done or otherwise the smell is just going to come back again and again and again...
