After the past 10 years with FOMOCO (Lariats), I wanted something different. I test rode the 2008 Ford Lariat Crew, Toyota Tundra, and the Nissan LE. I decided to pull the trigger on the Nissan. That's where the trouble began.

I didn't think my request was too out of the ordinary. I want a simple Alert Red LE SWB Crew, 2-wheel drive, Captains buckets, and Almond leather.

Also want the Fosgate radio, floor mats.

Don't want the tow package, moon roof, or running boards, etc.

Seems pretty simple to me. I thought the dealership would be clammoring for my business.

But the dealerships won't call me back. I have checkbook in hand ready to buy cash deal, no trade in; but they won't give me the time of day.

Today I browsed the Internet and found what I believe is the problem. They have no stock!

NOBODY seems to have the truck I want. I don't think there's a single LE with leather of ANY color in Dallas. I searched inventory at a dozen dealerships and couldn't find a single desireable truck. I don't think any had leather interior. (I absolutely don't want cloth). And I absolutely don't need or want the tow package.
:crying:

So now here I am. I may have to get another Ford Lariat after all, despite wanting a new Titan. What is a guy to do?

Dont give up!!!! the Titan is the way to go. I would call all the dealers and ask what they have. Sometimes the dealers web site isnt updatedor show all the stock.

No tow package is just foolish unless you'll be keeping the truck until it dies. For resale alone I'd be sure to have it. Cash deals are not the preference to a dealer. They'd rather have you finance.
You can have the dealer "order" the truck you want but be ready to wait until that particular truck rolls off the assembly line...it could take months. It's still worth the wait.

Hey Ken, I had the exact same problem 2 months ago, I wanted black on black LE 4x2 NO NAV (I have it) NO DVD (I have it) MUST have was step rails I'm only 5ft5in :) had to get the tow package for these... after many many weeks that turned into months I finally found a dealer that had a black on black LE that was a demo for the general manager of the dealership (hence the DVD and NAV I didn’t want), it had 5500 miles on it and still in excellent condition, I too looked at a few other trucks during my frustrating months but I'm SO SO glad I held out and persevered for the titan; it's a wonderful truck,

My advise to you is, search search search, call dealers in your area and ask about demos that are coming offline soon etc... You might be able to convince somebody to sell one early.

Good luck and I hope you stick with the titan I'm glad I did

Red alert is what i first asked for, but not as many around. Also tell them you want to put down the minimum and finance the rest. They will give you a better deal cause they know they can rape you on interest. After the deal is done and your ready to sign, tell them you decided to pay cash. good luck dont give up!

Well, I'm almost 60 years old. Only trailer I ever tow occasionally is my Ultra Classic (HD) on a single bike trailer. I keep every vehicle longer than the last. Current is almost 7 years. I plan to keep the Nissan truck for up to 10 years. By then, it'll be a moot point when it comes to resale. Prolly be my last ever truck if all goes to plan.

I don't mind waiting 30, 60, 90 days for an ordered vehicle. Dealer says that I can probably forget any factory incentives cause the deal is set when the truck is delivered to me, not when it is purchased.

Oh well. I'll keep looking. (and exercise patience) :)

I almost went with the 'tow package' until I found out that the 08 Titan could tow 7,400 pounds and has an "over-drive off" button... I don't own anything that heavy and don't forsee anything like that in the future. In fact, with the tow package my weight goes up to just 9,400 lbs - and if you're even close to towing that much you're not buying a gasoline powered truck. :hat:

You guys need to come to the big D - they're practically giving these trucks away to make room for the 08.5's.

Which "D" is that? I'm in the Dallas big D and can't find hardly anything with leather interior, much less a crew cab in red.

I'm willing to travel to buy one. But it's really hard to search all of the individual dealerships within a thousand miles, one at a time.

The one nice thing you do get with the tow package is a tranny cooler. You don't get that with the non-tow package. I think that is beneficial to the life of the tranny for someone that plans to hold onto the vehicle for a while.

you do get a tranny cooler with the non tow package, but not the gauge. The big tow gives you the gauge. When i bought mine, i was like yourself, i never thought i would ever tow anything beyond the 7400lb rating, which in 2004, was huge. 3 years later i'm in the market for a travel trailer, and the difference in selection between a trailer with a gross of 7400 vs. 9500 is huge, hence i wish i had the big tow. For the little bit of a drop in gas mileage, and the extra oomph off the line, i wish i had of done differently. Another wish i had, but didn't exist at the time, was a long box in a CC. If i was buying now, it would be a CC LB.

As well, an LE without leather? is there such a truck? I thought the "L" in LE meant luxury, no leather is not luxury. Learn something new everyday.

good luck in your search, don't give up, keep hunting.

I know of no "overdrive off button" on any Titan. There is a TOW MODE button though which isn't the same thing. I've been towing close to the max tow rating for 3 years now, so if you think you need a Diesel to tow 9000LBS, you need to bring your knowledge of trucks and towing up the the 21st century. This truck tows it with no problem, and when not towing, I'm not stuck with a Diesel slug feeding it $3.59 a gallon fuel.
A lot of people buy trucks and not forsee towing more than a certain weight. But things change and the tow package is cheap, adds extra features, and may be something a buyer is looking for when you go to sell it. That was my point.

the tow package adds very little to the cost of the truck, and huge chunks of the trucks are equipped with it so i would check that box.

Also the LE comes with the rocksford fosgate sound, so you dont have to worry about that either.

Sounds like all you want is a base LE red on tan. They all come with leather captains as well. Just send out an email saying BASE LE red on tan.

Dont complicate it with silly details.

Good luck.

I have the basic truck that you are looking for. Your problem is that people that want a LE wants luxury items on it. To get my LE, I also had to get more goodies that I needed, but I am glad I have, despite the bigger monthly note.
You may have to look into the SE and add on to it. It will be much easier to find.
Good luck.

If you mean rear diff failures, that has nothing to do with the tow package. All Titan models, with and without the tow package, have had problems. And no, it can't tow the same as the tow package equipped truck. 7400 vs 9500LBS. Huge difference.
