I installed new headunit and kept my same amp and sub that I put in with the factory cd changer. I hooked it up to the preouts on the new cd player and it seems much quieter. Ihad it wired with one of the speaker to rca converters and it had a gain control that I could turn up or down. do they make the same thing but just rca in rca out? I called a bunch of places they act like they have never heard of such a thing. sounds like it would be a normal item.

Unless the speaker to rca converter is powered, it just allows you to turn down the level, not up. An example of this type of device is the NE-774V described here:

If it is powered, it is called a pre-amp or line driver.

Yes, they make pre-amps or line drivers with RCA in and out.

Examples include

Audio Control Matrix and Overdrive

I have the Matrix, which provides three separate gain controls for 3 pairs of RCAs in and out.

What is the new head unit you are using?

Also, did you have the RF 6 disc, and did you hook up the LOC after the factory amp?
