I can't believe it, I came out to my truck after work today, and found that my Undercover Tonneau has melted. Great. It's a little over a year old I think, so hopefully it will be under warranty. It was only around 100 degrees or so today, very hot, but it shouldn't be melting my tonneau!

So now here goes the battle with Warranty, I will keep you posted as to how this turns out.

But if you live in the South and have a Undercover or similar, you might be wary!

It melted right around the center area, when I found it, it was very hard to the touch, not soft, I can't believe this could happen. If I had a giant magnifying glass or something perhaps. The inside looks fine, and the bed was empty. except for a bed-liner. My only possible thought is that too much heat got trapped inside the bed?

Here is a post from when I got my Tonneau which was February 21st 2006..

According to the website it has a 3 year warranty on the composite parts.

I am on my second one, the first one warped in the middle. They are great to deal with, they sent a new one out ASAP. But now the new one is warping also, these cover's don't like the heat. I live in AZ. Mine is just a little wavey in the middle, not melted like yours.

Wow - Never seen that happen. It's been over 100 every day here too. Yesterday I made the mistake of touching my RollBak which is aluminum, and I almost burned my freaking hand off.

Good luck with the warranty thing!

It was actually 104 here yesterday, but it still shouldn't have melted my cover. Once I get this taken care of, I'm going to have to think of some sort venting method for the bed, or keep it parked in the shade during the hottest days.

I just got off the phone with Undercover, and they hadn't seen this happen like this before. But they are sending me out a replacement today. So very good service there. Very helpful! I am going to be shipping them the messed up one so they can figure out what went wrong with it.

wow something is not right with that cover. Glad to hear they are takin care of you. The bed should not get as hot as the cab with that cover on it. Granted it is black and it will get hot and radiate some of its heat into the bed but not enough to melt it. Unless you leave it out in the middle of the saharah desert for a week. There are no windows in your bed to add all that super heat that you get in your cab. (hense why windshield covers help keep the cab cooler when you park it.)

I had that cover for about a year here in South Florida. Of all the tops I had it was OK. But I must say it never melted. Did you have any chemicals in the bed area?

Good point. It it possible that something stored underneath the cover like a large metal box, or something that retains the heat and raises the temperature at that zone?

These cover's are plastic, they will distort under high temp's. My cover see's 110+ all summer long so I expect it. My first cover was more warped than the one I have now because I was taking it to the car wash when it was over 105 deg. outside. It would sit outside and get realy hot then go through the car wash and get sprayed with cool water, when it came out it was warped. So don't spray this cover with cold water when it's realy hot.

I was initially happy with my Undercover (Feb 06), but have really hated it for almost the past year.

Either the cover is too narrow, or my Titan's box is too wide. The cover shrinks enough in cold weather to touch the side of the box (towards the tailgate end). Tons of deeeeep scratches.

Dude from Undercover says my box is too wide. He mentioned that Titans were very inconsistent for box measurements. Nissan couldn't care less if my box is 1/8" or 3/16" wider than normal.... it's not an area that has any tight tolerances. Tailgate fits fine, no big gaps. The only spec measurement for the box is between a couple of points under the plastic caps on the box rails. Can't get those plastic parts off without wrecking them, so I don't bother.

I've recently tried to modify the cover to get a bigger gap (heat gun, bent the lip up a bit), but that moved the problem to the corner.

Dude from Undercover said there's no way his cover is off dimensionally, as they are all made from the same mold. And of course, he had never heard of my problem. My beef is they made the thing a fraction of an inch too narrow to keep it streamlined. (it's not like my box is damaged or abused - the heaviest thing I've hauled in the box is a Honda quad)

Glad to hear they are taking care of you. I wish mine would melt!!!!
