So as i was driving today, i noticed that my '08 Pro4x was having a sort of knocking/rapping sound coming from the passenger side suspension area whenever i drove over small corrugations/ bumps on the road. On the open highway, everything was quiet. I recently had had Bilstein 5100s installed front and rear at stock setting. I do not have a lift nor do i desire one. Alignment was done last month and everything was within spec.

The mechanic drove with me and he took the front passengr wheel off later and confirmed that the upper control arm needed replacing. I am not sure if it is just the bushing that is toast or the whole UCA.

From all the reading here, it looks like the PRG/RoughCountry/DirtKing UCAs are all for situations where a lift/leveling kit is desired. If i want to keep the stock height, do i have to upgrade to the aftermarket kits or should i just get a stock UCA? or Should i get a UCA rebuild kit that the aftermarket companies put out?

Shows the somewhat toasted looking UCA here

The lower control arm link is not in that better shape either...

Well that sway bar link could be a culprit. As could the UCA bushing or upper ball joint. Recently installed Bilstiens, did you install? Often times a washer gets put on wrong causing a noise. I would think the UCA is the least likely thing.

Since you're stock just stick with stocj parts. You can get everything from RockAuto pretty cheap. Can't tell if your UCA's shot but I would first replace those end links first and see if that's the culprit

What they all said. i think a new UCA is like $40. There is no rebuild kit for the stockers. Try that end link first tho.

Thank you all for the advise. I took it in to the shop. It turns out that the Bilstein had been installed wrong- the mounting bracket was damaged as a result. Put on a new bracket and all is good now.
I will, as you advise, replace the endlinks and the bushings too - they are just too decrepit looking. Are there any other things i should replace while i'm at it down there?

I just went through this myself, original shop didn't put the OEM washers back in and cost me over $500 in parts and labour. Nissan fixed it up and the shop owner is going to pay me back thankfully.
