UtiliTrac Addition

552 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  TitanBlue
Hi all,

First post... I have a Titan XE and really wanted the Utilitrac system. I thought this should be easily installed by the dealer but they said that was not an option (I dont understand why they all dont come with it). So, has anyone installed one? Any ideas on where to get the parts? And and issues I should know about before starting?

Thanks,

Dnalrah

There have been several members who have added it after the fact. It will not have the structural support under the bed, which is why the dealer is telling you no can do.

In the real world, it means it won't have the strength that the OEM has.

And, Welcome to the boards! If you'll hit up on the search engine here, you'll pretty easily find those threads about the others who have either asked about or done what you're wanting to do.

Enjoy!

Carbeaux is right across the board! Welcome and hope you enjoy the Forum.

I would add that you can go to a weld shop and have them weld in the cross members for that structural support.

I don't understand why they would make different versions of this as well.
I've got all the parts to do mine, but it will be my last Mod, after I finsh the others I installing right now. Excellent write ups are on site, as others stated.

Instead of welding, I'd just use extra large washers to reinforce under the bed (Fender Washers). I don't see the stress applied from these rails to be at all excessive. The best thing would be to run a 1/8 or 3/16 inch thick strap of steel or aluminum under the bed to aid the strength. Just makes a bigger bearing surface, but is really overkill.

Welding on a finshed product is going to make it rust easier, at the point of the welding (the Heat Affected Zone or HAZ). And it will damage the sprayed in Bed Liner (or even the regular paint), if you have that, as I do.

I'm a Certified Welder, not too often I'd vote against welding! :)
