vk56de, not in titan exhaust

I have been reading many of the exhaust threads on here with all coming to the same conclusion. Single outlet and 2.5 inch max.

I am swapping a 2011 vk56de into my g35 and I picked up a cheap 2.25 dual exhaust on ebay. I believe it is an hks knock off, with dual res and res off each muffler.

I was planning to have a x-pipe welded in, due to threads I read.

I guess I am beating a dead drum,, but I am trying something new.
When adding the x-pipe, how far from header flanges should I go with it?. I am on JBA vk headers with extended tubing to reach stop g35/350 location.

If from what you guys have found makes this pointless, at what point should I "Y" pipe, or use the stock g35/350z y-pipe and just single out?

Thanks ahead of time?

purchase a Vibrant 2-1 merge collector that is 2.5'' inlets with a single 3'' oulet. Buy some ebay self aligning Vbands, and have them welded up.

In that car, 2.5'' is fine, I wouldn't bother going with 2.25.

get you a borla XR1 oval muffler 3'' inlet/outlet or even the Vibrant muffler, those are nice too for the money.

If you want to retain the dual exhaust, then do the above with the Y pipe. Then purchase a second 2.5'' x 3'' Vibrant Y pipe, flip it around and run the Y section out the back and either go straight to outlet tips, or run two Vibrant Ultra quiets.

The car will sound incredible either way.

I had a real Japan made Apexi N1 on my Titan and it sounded good. I had headers, 2.5'' B pipes into the Y pipe mentioned above. Also had two bottle resonators before the Apexi muffler too.

Don't over complicate it or over spend on parts and piping with X or H pipe, which will also require extra muffler, welding time etc..

The VK56 no matter what its in, was destined to be used with a Borla XR1 oval muffler hands down.

Also, give yourself about 18'' of secondary B pipe length until the Y pipe, try to make them equal length. After the Y pipe, you'll want to try and get 10'' of piping before the muffler. If not, its not a huge deal, but just things learned over the years.

Vbands are cheap on ebay, make sure they are self aligning, they will make everything much easier to work with on your car. For track outings run Open Y pipe. The Vk56 sounds terrifying uncorked.

As for X pipes, the problem is can't get them close enough to the header collectors on the Titan, they are good for reducing decibel however. But, for simplicity, i'd just stick to the Y pipe setup. Its proven effective.

If anything, read what Tony from Motordyne talks about with Y pipes, or Sasha from SG Motorsports/On Point Dyno. Both use Y pipe systems, make tons of power.

With the VK56 in the car, take a picture of the underside with the headers mounted and i will circle in paint for you the location of where to put the parts lol. That is if you are able to get an underside picture. I'm just messin though, i'm sure you know where to route everything.

I wouldn't use the 2.25'' dual HKS knock off system though. Be better off selling it and going with a good Vibrant 2-1 Y pipe, and a borla XR1, then have someone (or yourself if possible) fabricate mandrel bent stainless. Save up and spend the right way the first time around.

Also, if you are willing to wait, JBA is releasing some new 1-3/4 x 3'' headers soon with vbands for the 1st gen titans.
Sucks to hear about your issue with Z fever. I don't see how he stays in business with some of the stories shared. Couldn't imagine being without my vehicle for a year.
