I am placing this post here and on the General Discussion forums.

Note: I bought this '04 Titan a few months ago as an individual sale in another town some distance away, so I didn't have any warranty on it. I didn't have it long when it started draining oil into the cylinder(s) when shut off and emitting a great cloud of oil smoke when it was started up and over the course of a long trip, it began to use more and more oil. Three different mechinics diagnosed the problem as leaking valve stem seals. A mechanic friend of mine and I removed the heads.

I took my Titan's heads to a machine shop for a valve job as the valve stem seals needed replacing. They also needed resurfacing as someone had previously had the heads off and had misused a scotch pad on them. One head is back together, but when the shop guy assembled the other head, the cam shaft binds somewhat in one spot in the rear exhaust cam shaft bracket when rotated. There are wear marks on the cam shaft "bearing". The machinist said he would't reassemble that camshaft as it has a problem and that I needed to get a replacement camshaft.

I checked online for an aftermarket camshaft but found none so far. I called a Nissan dealer and they will only sell a set of four for around $700 and I only need one. Does anyone know where I can buy just one camshaft or might have one they would sell? It is the exhaust cam, left bank (driver side). Any help would be appreciated.

Jim Wolf Technologies may be able to help. They make performance cams for our Titans. I would seize the opportunity that has presented itself and go faster;)

I think I have two sets of cam shafts from a 04. Let me look tomorrow. FYI the valve seals washing out is from seafoam. I had same issue from sea foaming.

i did put some seafoam in the oil, but can't remember if it was before or after the valve seal problem started. If you have cams from an '04 then you have what i need. I only need the one cam, but if you only sell the sets that will have to do. I wouldn't replace all four of mine as one head is ready and the valves adjusted. I might have the pair put in the other head. Please do let me know as i haven't heard back from the guy who had the performance cams put in his truck. His truck is an '08 and i think that engine is the same as my '04 engine and his cams would work. But, i haven't gotten positive verification on that. On one web site I did see the same set of performance cams (same stock number) sold for both the '04 and '08 Titan.

From what I know and someone chime in if I am. Cams are only swappable from 04-07 as 08+ have variable valve timing. I have two complete motors from my 04. One has hole in block from my bad valve seal experience. Other I tore apart cause it spun a bearing and no one around me would work on it cause tolerances are to tight. I will see what I have from the is disassembled

I have another question and this may sound dumb, but i am no mechanic. My cams are in the heads are at the machine shop so i can't look at them.

Are the cams different, that is, specific as to location (Intake, exhaust, left or right bank) or are they interchangeable? If they are location specific, are they marked in some way to determine where they go on the heads? When the heads were taken off and the cams removed, they were kept in the proper order to go back where they came from. My question has to do with replacing just one cam and knowing which cam goes where.

Another novice question. I found cams on Ebay (picture shows 2 cams) "NISSAN SR20DET S14 CAMSHAFT / Genuine OEM SR20 Silvia CAMs". I asked the seller about the model year, mileage, etc. and got only a reply that "they are for Nissan SR20DET". What does this tell me? Is SR20DET a truck model/year?

Never mind. I think i found the answer to the previous question. That code shows that these cams are for 2.0 liter engine.

Jim wolf is only company I know of making aftermarket cams for titans. Many users have them on here. As the cams I have all 4 out. They are labeled different. One set will be labeled 7sR and other 7sL. And on the actual cam gear there while be a part number. The last two digits are different. Being 14 and 17. Find out which one you need and we can pm and figure details.

Cams are only interchangeable from 04-06. 07 and up have cvtcs and are not compatible.

Thank you SuperTighty5.6 for that info.

Chazg88, I will go to the machine shop today and check the cams and gears for ID numbers.

Kelford makes some as well. They have some designed for turbo application.
