Bought my 2017 Titan in December last year.

I haven't put much in the bed other than a couple bales of hay and my cooler.

I put a 1 gallon gas can in the back and of course it spilled.

That little bit of gas, maybe a cup, caused the sprayed in bed liner to disintegrate and lift off the bed.

See the attached picture.

The dealership would not do anything about it and the Nissan customer care line did nothing but call me to tell me that they weren't going to do anything about it. A complete waste of my time. They called it damage caused by an outside influence.

I see 2 problems.

#1 The first is that the bed liner material is of very poor quality. I know some of these spray in materials are used for tank liners.

#2 The bed is indeed painted underneath. The prep on the bed is laughable at best. There is no scuffing looks like that shot a very coarse material which barely got through the clearcoat.

Don't put gas in your titan bed with the inferior spray in bed liner. It will destroy it. Don't trust that Nissan will even take an interest that this damage is occurring.

Skip the factory spray in bed liner. I think I will douse the rest with gas to take it off and get something with quality.

i hope you do douse the entire bed in gas. just burn the whole truck!

it does suck that you can see they didn't prep very well.

my 2006 bedliner was bulletproof. my 2011 was pretty solid but not as good as the 2006.

I spilled gas in my 2006 and it began to do the same thing. Luckily, I caught it quickly and hosed it out.

I tried the dealer, i called customer care, the last chance is going to be the BBB as outlined in the warranty book.
I don't have much faith that Nissan will care enough to admit that there bed liners are poor quality.

I'll take it over to line-x and see if they can fix it or scrape out the garbage and put in a quality liner.

I epoxy coated the tub of my jeep with a product called Monstaliner 5 years ago. That stuff has had gas/oil/saltwater on top of my toolboxes and carbide tipped cleats on it and never a scratch or discoloration. The only place it actually failed was on a1/4" diameter footman loop were I couldn't get a good scuff underneath it.

Line-X will definitely redo the liner for you. But I'm pretty sure they'll require the old one to be removed. There are videos on YouTube of the Ford factory liner being ripped out as part of the prep for a new Line-X liner. The liner comes out in sheets, not just little pieces.

The factory liner on my '07 Titan was great. I had zero problems but I don't remember ever spilling anything nasty on it and it was covered by a topper 100% of the time. On my F-350 I have the factory liner and so far I see no reason to replace it. I spilled some diesel fuel additive in the bed a few weeks ago. I'll have to look at the liner to see if any damage was done.

Rustoleum makes a bedliner paint. You could patch yours with that product. It comes in both a rattle can and a 1 gallon bucket. Either way, it's some nasty smelling stuff until it has been cured for at least 10 days. Patching it is what I would do in the short term.

The factory bedliner in my F-350 didn't show any issues with the spilled diesel additive.

I think this is a prep fail. It doesn't matter if it's LineX, Rhino, if it isn't prepped correctly your spray-in doesn't stand a chance.
I have the factory spray in liner and I have spilt harsh chemicals and nothing happened so I dont know what has happened to you other guys with your liners crumbling but I am thinking too they didnt prep the box properly just like hack14u mentioned. I would have that dealer get it re done under warranty , that is not acceptable.

That damage is more then just a cup of fuel. It is clear that it was not prepped properly. The liner quality is fine, at least mine is as tough as nails. No issues whatsoever with mine and I work with much harsher chemicals then fuel. File a consumer report with Nissan and get your box re sprayed under warranty. They have a bumper to bumper warranty , surely your truck is still under warranty, make them honor it.

PS. Curious to ask. Hard to tell in the photo but is the texture of your liner a hard shiny, somewhat smooth feel or does it feel like about a 50 grit sandpaper? Reason I ask is if yours is somewhat smooth then I can see why its lifting, faulty adhesion. Mine is a very coarse coating almost like a roof shingle.

Its not the shiny epoxy type. Its a little more rubbery and rough. If you touch the painted bed you can tell that the prep was not sufficient. My body shop guys agreed with me. I think in the spring I am going to remove the rest of it and put in a quality linex liner. The roll in liner i did myself held up way better than this garbage and i spilled battery acid on it.

Well again the quality in the liner in my experience is good stuff, that is too bad yours is not up to par. Obviously there is something messed up. I would be curious to know as to which company does this liner and if it is ratio mixed or all ready pre mixed before they spray it on. In my line of work I use an industrial epoxy coating that is a 2 part epoxy and if I dont mix it exactly 50-50 then it will lift such as what your experiencing otherwise its bullet proof. Perhaps this is what happened with yours. Ill be chatting with the dealer to find out more about how this coating.

Just curious, are you sure this was a "factory bed liner" and not something the dealer put on cheaply?
Not doubting you. That pic does not look like my bed liner.
